Reviews
Awesome game! This is 3D Factorio basically but with several important differences (except the obvious 3D aspect of course). Pluses: The fact you can sell the products and there is a "market dominance" goal, gives more meaning to the "endgame" phase, and more reason to BUILD BUILD BUILD. What it lacks: A good factory game requires easy manipulation of machines, construction that kind of stuff. There is no "copy-paste" or "blueprint" function, so everything has to be done by hand. Another issue I found is that some game mechanics are not obvious and I had to research them out of game. Overall, good game!

Pale shadow of Satisfactory. Ugly, archaic, boring as hell. Digging tons of cubics feels like subscription to slave labor from May 2009. Another Minecraft with mods in 2025? Are you serious?
I took the time to replay Foundry multiple times before making my final recommendation. I really dislike recommending a game without thoroughly experiencing it, as it can feel like a wasted investment if I don't properly judge its worth. Unfortunately, Foundry doesn't stand out in a crowded market of factory-building games, especially with so many great alternatives available right now. One of the main issues I encounter is that Foundry is a first-person, 3D factory game—a combination that, in my opinion, leads to frustration. As much as I enjoy the idea of building a factory in a 3D space, it can be incredibly difficult to get a good overview of your factory layout. The game doesn't provide an easy way to manage this complexity. Ideally, it would have a system like a jetpack, easily-buildable towers, or even a birds-eye view (like in many strategy games) to help visualize your factory's design. Without these tools, it quickly becomes overwhelming. Additionally, the lack of blueprints for repeating designs adds to the frustration. In other factory games, being able to copy and paste or use a blueprint for building patterns is a huge time-saver, and I really missed that feature here. Building a sizeable factory, especially re-building parts to optimize, one of the aspects the marketing team of Foundry wants us to get excited about, is really a chore that is putting me off after placing the 100th ferrite smelter for the second time... That said, there are aspects of the game that I did enjoy. The blocky world has a nice, Minecraft-like aesthetic, which I found charming. The space trading system is also a unique touch that adds some depth to the gameplay. However, despite these positives, the core design of the game, especially the way it handles factory-building, simply doesn’t appeal to me. The lack of essential tools and features makes it difficult to get into a rhythm and really expand your factory. For me, these issues aren't just about polish—they are fundamental to the experience, and no amount of refinement will likely change my feelings toward them. I'm sorry. Final Thoughts: Foundry may offer some unique ideas, but its core mechanics just don’t work for me. The 3D first-person perspective, combined with the lack of proper management tools, makes building a factory feel more frustrating than fun. While some may enjoy its aesthetic and trading system, I can't recommend it to fans of factory-building games, especially when there are so many better options available.
Still needs some work. There are no vertical conveyors. There is no blueprint system (only as a mod). There is no splitter over conveyor. Lacks some QoL still, I would wait for release at least
FOUNDRY is a first-person block-based factory automation simulator. The premise is practically nonexistent: you drop onto an uncharted world, immediately inherit a massive debt, and are put to work exploiting resources to build a sprawling industrial complex. Fact: The corporate debt trope is everywhere in space-builder sims—Animal Crossing's Tom Nook would feel right at home with these contract terms! The Short Answer: Is It Worth Buying? Well... I would recommend buying Satisfactory instead, at least in FOUNDRY's current state. Playtime 5/10 It takes around 25–35 hours to reach full tech-tree progression in current builds. Story 2/10 What story? Here's a planet, here's your debt—now get to work. Music 3/10 Passable for an early-access/alpha release; hopefully, the soundtrack sees major updates before full release or other date. Graphics 4/10 Blocky voxel visual style reminiscent of mid-2015s PC graphics. Mechanics 4/10 The low-voltage power network mechanics feel deeply frustrating to handle. The global market concept is a cool idea on paper, but because trade values and demands are static, market trading quickly becomes boring. Logistics ships feel like someone took Satisfactory's transport concepts and let Ubisoft design the system. Building and mining feel clunky and uncomfortable overall; while it isn't unplayable, playing after superior factory titles makes you desperately miss modern quality-of-life features. Interacting with the global market feels like trying to play a 4X strategy game without any proper resource management tools. Conveyor belt placement and logistics routing are equally obnoxious to set up. Personal Take Only worth considering if you've completely exhausted Satisfactory, crave something similar, but specifically don't want to replay Satisfactory itself. Loading and unloading mechanics are atrocious, and belt placement is a constant chore. While raw node resources are abundant enough that you won't starve for materials, expanding and optimizing your production lines feels far too tedious compared to its genre peers. Overall Score: 62/100
I have to say, I bought this game years ago and have picked it up a few different times and I could never get fully into it. I could never put my finger on why. Ive played and loved literally every other game of it's type. Satisfactory, factorio, Captain of industry etc. All of which I have hundreds of hours in. But I always found myself putting it down before sending anything to space. After I played out Palworld I decided to give it another go. Boy im glad I did. I regret not giving it a fair shot before but im hooked. It has everything the other games have and more in my opinion. You can see your progress. You see the world being harvested inside and out before your eyes. You're actually able to build and supply a galactic economy limited only by your production abilities. I love the touch of elevators, voxel world, cargo ships etc. Its only missing trains which are currently being developed. People complaining about lack of jetpack just haven't researched it yet. Seriously, if you're on the fence, give it a chance. Once you make it to green science, you'll be invested. I love this game and it's current direction! Looking forward to what's still to come. I personally would love to be able to use robots you make. Would be awesome to see robots working around the factory that they themselves have built! Give it a 9/10 in current state. (Edit 01/25/26 : Most recent update has implemented the use of robots you build to work in your factory which was one of my desired features. Now I just look forward to more late game space content!)
