The game looks nice and certainly has a strong start. Where it tanks is at the step to the e(e)lectrics. Then one figures out that research means snot, if one cannot find the proper resources. Since the map is hard-coded ("handcrafted"), what looks like a neat exploration game becomes a lame trying to figure out what some dev dictates you do next. Really pity, this.
"Captain! Clambo got her head stuck in a plastic bottle again! Somebody get the uncorker fired up!" Flotsam is a rather relaxed and comfy little city builder in which you captain a township (it's a ship that is also a town, or perhaps a town with a ship in it?) and sail across flooded farms, crumbling cities, foul factories and wasting woodlands to gather up survivors and supplies. Your goal is to build out your township and travel across the flooded wastes, unlocking technologies that might one day allow you to find a safe haven and beat the game. At a glance the game is very, very pretty. The cartoony art style doesn't seem to be designed to be a bit nostalgic while also being clearly readable, exquisitely detailed and all around pleasant to look at, whether you're examining the quirky buildings or lively townsfolk going about their work. Only toward the end of the game did I start to encounter some visual issues, mostly in the form of minor animation glitches, though during the late game the player is less likely to be staring too closely at the animations anyway as the township has likely grown to a considerable size. It is also highly endearing with its thematic puns, such as eel-lectiricy to power up your buildings, in some cases with actual electric eels! The music also deserves a positive note, building up as twangy and relaxed soundscape that is neatly complemented by specific jingles and jangles to denote key events and accomplishments. Sound effects are serviceable, mostly splashes and whooshes and clattering of tools related to actions of the townsfolk and providing a little bit of feedback on what is going on. As for how the game plays, Flotsam is very relaxed. Therea re no major disasters to face and the challenge posed to the player is rather light. Townsfolk are easily kept happy by providing them with basics like housing, food and water and maybe a small boat so they don't have to get wet while swimming out to gather supplies. Balancing stockpiles of goods, ensuring that you don't get flooded with junk items, seems to be the most notable challenge of the game, which should give you an idea of just how little in the way of friction Flotsam provides. If I had to critique Flotsam for one thing it'd be a certain lack of options. Buildings can be upgraded, but for most buildings this just means making them lighter to allow your township to sail faster. I'd have really liked to see some more variation in the upgrades. The townsfolk also come with various skills and quirks, but these also have a very minor effect and thus pose very little challenge for the player to manage. You do get to name the little dudes and dudettes, though, which is always a lovely touch! I'd also have liked for there to be more reason not to build your ship in a neat grid and ended up kind of forcing myself to break up the patterns a little so the township looked more visually interesting, though this is definitely a matter or personal preference! On my rig the game also suffered of a minor issue in the late game, where loading a save would cause the game to become very jittery and glitchy for a minute. Letting it finish loading up in the background would always resolve the issue and restore smooth gameplay, however. In the end, if you are looking for a chill game to tinker with and enjoy an oceanic theme, or perhaps would like to introduce a slightly younger player to the genre of city builders, Flotsam is a great option that I'd happily recommend! If, on the other hand, you're looking for a little bit more challenge and threat and a more engaging narrative, then IXION is a game with a slightly similar concept of building up a city as it travels, but in space! For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Very cute and fun little colony builder. Challenge is appropriate for people like me who love colony builders but suck at the complex late game stages of other titles. I managed to finish it without ever really getting into trouble, even though I usually throw in the towel halfway through most other colony sims, so don't expect hyper complex resource fine tuning or anything. + Cute graphics + Decently long campaign (took me just over 20h) + Pretty cozy ~ Quite easy
Flotsam is a lot of fun, but a technical issue causes it to be very annoying to play. Because of that, I can't recommend it. ❤️️ Pros ❤️️

Unique take on the "survival colony builder" by having a city floating on waves, recycling stuff to grow your base
Diverse range of buildings available, spread across a nice gameplay pace
There are different areas that offer their own challenges
Large depth in the tech tree
❌ Cons ❌

After +/- 30 minutes, the game starts chugging and FPS drops to about 20/30. While still playable, it's very noticeable and annoying. Restarting the game simply buys you another while before it comes back.
The soundtrack is chill, but it gets a little repetitive. A few longer/different tunes would really help here.
Though there is a vague short-term solution all the time, I never really got to a situation where it was clear to me why we are in this situation and what the end-goal is. There was only a breadcrumb goal to my next step, no bigger picture.
Final thoughts The game is not bad from a gameplay perpective, but the technical issue I am experiencing during gameplay is the main reason that demotivates me to finish or even play this game. That's sad. I wish I could've gottten a refund, but alas, that was denied. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone simply because it would be sad if they get hooked on a game that you need to restart every 30m. Was this review useful to you? I quite enjoy the gameplay loop in early game, however, midgame to endgame can get a bit boring. It is fun until you plan out your whole town. For me this took a few playthroughs. I had to force myself to finish all the specialists. Frankly, I wasn't interested in the Doctor, the Seagull person or the Aquaculturist so it took me awhile to motivate myself to get them. I ended the game around Day 280, but I couldn't be bothered to continue until Day 365 for the achievement. Pros: Not too difficult, Relaxing, Building stuff and dismantling stuff is fast and you get back all your resources. Cons: Can get repetitive. Certain areas such as the polluted towns can get a tad annoying to manuveur if your town is too big. Rotating the town feels clunky. Characters look stupid. I wouldn't say there is a lot of replay value here but it was fun while it lasted.
Hello! I played this game blind with only seeing the trailer of the game. I loved it a lot more than O thought with the goofy and cute story along with a game that is simple but doesn't hold your hand. My only thought is that I was able to complete it pretty fast and didn't need to really worry about pollution much, I just turned off the water makers when I went in. Maybe some larger pollution areas or more dangerous zones to prepare to go into. Overall I really loved the gameplay loop and personality of the game and hope to see more content or DLC in the future that add difficulty!
Wow, what a fun game. This is such a chill fun way to spend some time floating around, saving people, and doing some research. The game is great because you can actually get refunded resources. Here is the bad news... there is a bug that is negatively impacting the game play. I had so much fun for so long, but in trying to rebuild by boat I encountered a known bug that makes it so a building is attached to nothing and I am not able to deconstruct the building, no matter what I have tried to do. This makes it impossible for me to put my boat together like I want to, which has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I am happy to change my review if the bug is fixed, because it was really fun, but a bug like this really killed the game for me, and I can't seem to get anyone to take it seriously. Hopefully it will get fixed!
Overall it's a good game. It's a nice, fun, comfy game... until it's not. If you're lucky you won't ever see anything but the fun, comfy game. If RNGesus doesn't like you, the game **long** outstays its welcome. I couldn't find a single wheat until 28 hours into my play though. I've read others having problems finding aluminium, but I didn't have any issues running across more than enough aluminium myself. And your ability to progress is gated behind wheat and aluminium. Before you ask, yes, I looked at every farm I came across. It took until game day 280 before I finally came across any wheat. I had the ability to build mills to mill wheat into flour probably 10 hours into the game. By the time I finally found wheat, I had a floating, self sustaining city of about 36 drifters, growing every possible crops but wheat, 5 electric desalination plants, with the city weighing over 15,000 weight units. I got an achievement for that, one of only 1.4% of players had. I had 15 seagulls, an achievement a similar percentage of players had. Adding insult to injury, I had to plant the wheat and then wait for it to grow, then expand the size of the wheatfields with the wheat that had just finished growing to expand the fields further. Because everything is gated behind glue, which requires flour, which requires milling wheat. Should any devs read this, please, please look into wheat spawn rates. Because the end game stops being fun when it consists of nothing but searching for wheat while ignoring everything else because there's no longer any point to anything else, and you can't progress without wheat.
