This is a strategy board game of Lovecraftian macabre. Gain resources, grow your cult, stay hidden from the world, and when the stars are finally right summon the Elder God you worship. Alternatively, just eliminate the competition in an invisible war.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.

Edited to explain- fifteen minutes of so-called 'content'- meaning some stuff to click- at most.
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
This is a browser/Flash tier board game that was inexplicably released on Steam as if it was a real PC game. The plot is ostensibly more amateur developer abuse of H.P. Lovecraft, a creatively bankrupt concept of establishing world domination through an evil cult. I guess the developer is not well versed in this kind of thing because the correct intellectual property they should have stolen for this would have been Steve Jackson's "Illuminati". Anyway, it's still creatively bankrupt. However, there is symmetry... the game design itself is also just as defunct. So, "Evil Cult" is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. Competition amongst PvP centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost. First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the Game. They lost that bet. Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images... it might as well be a web page. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $9 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. All other issues aside (any of which would disqualify this from being worth your time), this is a game that relies on other players for it to be viable, and because there's not enough players, it's not viable. I can't recommend anyone downloads this, it's basically dead.
Way more fun than you think.
What the game Shadows Behind the Throne II tries desperately to do but fails.
An enjoyable little game with a cute premise.
i will not get a refund on a 6,99 game made by a single dude, kudos for the effort and the intriguing idea, but i am definitely not in love with this. its not necessarily the bland presentation (someone compared it already to an EXCEL-sheet), but the balancing in this is so so bad. the AI is just way too OP / quick and it all feels onesided and rushed. this game deserved more and needs much much more love and fleshing out, while obviously it has been abandoned for 2 years now.
