About
Almost five hundred years of history unfold before you in Europa Universalis V, the latest version of one of the greatest strategy games of all time. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity.
Europa Universalis V builds on the franchise’s core concept of developing and advancing nations from around a deeply researched historical world, adding more detailed diplomacy, a more sophisticated economic model, a revised military system and greater logistical depth that will challenge even the most experienced strategy gamers.

RULE a land of your choosing. Hundreds of nations are yours to command, as you guide the destiny of millions of people through the late Middle Ages up to the Age of Revolution - from the mighty Yuán Dynasty to the city-states of Italy, from the warring clans of feudal Japan to the Pope himself.
DECIDE which course your nation will take. Historical events and situations await as you chart a unique path through a new history written by your decisions. Experience The Hundred Years’ War, the Protestant Reformation, the collapse of old dynasties and rise of new ones.
EXPLORE alternate histories as you shape the world to meet your ambitions. What if England succeeded in pressing its continental claims? What if China pursued an overseas empire? What if Mongol supremacy in Russia persisted? Every action opens the possibility for an original history.

IMPOSE domestic peace in a divided realm. Keep your nation’s factions in line as Estates jockey for power in your nation. Offer privileges to one group of citizens while you limit the power of another, all in the service of keeping your population under control.
NEGOTIATE your way through an uneasy peace. Use diplomacy to entrench your dynasty across realms or build an invincible alliance. But remember that nations have no permanent friends - only permanent interests; so use your ambassadors carefully. Exact favors from friends, send threats to enemies, and keep an eye on everyone in-between.
CONQUER new lands to expand your borders. Wage War on those who impede your ambition in a completely new Europa Universalis military system. Start in the age of levies and mercenaries and, through social development, evolve to vast standing armies and impenetrable fortresses. Choose skilled commanders to oversee both land and naval forces.

BUILD a strong economic infrastructure in the most detailed trade system yet seen in a Europa Universalis game. Dozens of goods and crops are available for production and trade on a map filled with new riches to discover. Invest in feeding a growing population or trade your surplus to less bountiful societies.
MOLD your society to meet the historical moment. Choose your societal values, with new options opening as the ages move on. Centralize power at court or share it with your nobles. Pursue a tolerant policy for all faiths or condemn heretics. Emphasize massed armies or an elite cadre of quality soldiers.
GOVERN a nation composed of many cultures and faiths in a detailed simulation of the past. For the first time in Europa Universalis, populations are represented on the map in detail, so provinces may be divided by religion or culture. Your decisions will determine how these populations will fare under your leadership.

PREVAIL in the greatest strategic challenges of the past. Test your expertise in grand strategic planning on a worldscape larger and more detailed than seen in any previous Paradox Interactive game. Challenge yourself to outdo the most famous rulers of the past, eclipsing their grand accomplishments and building your own vision of a richly detailed globe.

Nearly every action in this game is miniscule and slow. The simulation game might be simulating too much, I feel like im legitimately waiting for investments to pay off in 100 years then i'm suddenly snowballing at mach 100
Guess it's time for me to finally write something as I keep seeing a lot of people complaining about things this game is not. Yes indeed, it's not the same as EU4. Yes, they took a direction that linked it closer to Victoria's way of doing economy, to Crusader King's way of waging war. No it doesn't need mission trees because this would break the sandbox, this is what the game is trying to balance around. (they announced ambitions that would supposedly soothe mission trees tantrum makers) No, I don't think this is an issue because what a game license is supposed to do is evolve and not rinse and repeat the same thing over and over across new iterations. If you want that, go back and play EU4 or I dunno, football/shooter games that, on their side, will satisfy your stagnation needs. Now I do agree when it comes to the state of the game. It's playable, do not listen to people trying to run it using a potato and hopes. Does it run well? No. But by the time you reach a point where it starts to slow down you likely would have already made your money's worth of fun. Because it's what matters in the end, having fun, and this game does this well. What I want for the future is more about Paradox defining a clear content line while not constantly changing how the base game systems behave. Because this should have already been built from the very beginning. It feels more like playing an early access game than a full release sadly. If it does bother you then wait it out a few years. Because a game like this with the length it has shouldn't be resetting every casual player's save ever new major update, as it breaks everything. tldr ; the game is fun and playable, don't listen to the people complaining about unnecessary things while expecting the game to be EU4-2

Somehow the game gets less fun with every patch
Game is completly lagging as soon as I start to move around the map. Even tho i have the fps capped at 60fps, reinstalled it twice, checked for errors in the installed data... But the game makes fun to play, hopefully they will fix it soon.
I bought the game on release and quit playing a few months in because I have no desire to play medieval vic3. The game mechanics are good, but it's as empty as Victoria III. The reason why I don't play eu5 is likely the same reason why I just play vic2 instead. Not only that but you can already tell Paradox is going to (attempt) to milk everyone's cash by spamming low content DLC's. I at least bought the EU4 DLC's because they were packed with content (I was also way deeper into the game), but now the recent ER DLC is only for one nation, that also just happens to have a Hellenism path. What is going to happen *in reality* is that Paradox will release the next few DLC's, making the "complete" "game" double or even triple the price, and then get shorted of all profits because someone found a crack in the DLC auth, and also get bad reviews for the foreseeable future. I did read some reviews before posting my own. Lots of people are negative about the game itself, and even more so with the DLC. I would gladly change my mind if the DLC's were packed with just as much content as they were in EU4, and weren't going to follow the trend of shorting people's paychecks. But Tinto really let us down with the base game and the DLC; initially I did actually really like Tinto because when they took over EU4 we saw some big content come out which I enjoyed. Seems like that's no longer going to be the case. We saw it in ck3, we saw it in vic3, and we're sure as hell going to see it in eu5. I really do love the series, the mechanics in the game, and any content that may come out, but if you're just going to put out low effort expansions, extort them, and call it a true successor to EU4 whilst releasing with almost no basegame content, don't even bother developing video games anymore. Might do better for Paradox to make a variant of Monopoly. You can make people pay out the wazoo for unit packs there.
Sadly, no. There are TOO many things in this game, they added further automation. I have gone from a stable eco to turning on automation late game JUST for them to mess everything up in the span of a years time. I am not quite sure but even if you automate everything, there is no way it can play. It will just dig you into a hole, raise inflation to the max, take out loans. It purposely messes you up due to their own order coding, must be. Okay, lets take it slower and just wait, and wait, and wait, and watch a movie, war time an hour in because you want to expand. The neighboring NPCs will target you aggresivlely and make non historical plays for the sake of messing things up. When you have invested say 30-40 hours, why is COLONIAL MING coming for me? That makes NO SENSE! This game is literally some people playing 4 and saying "Yeah, yeah, yeah, lets add that too!" It is simply too bloated and for the sake of playing the game and enjoying it while also making the most of my time, I don't think I will be playing this one again. The only good news about playing 231.5 hours of this P.O.S. is that is made me realize how GOD LIKE of a game EU4 was UNTIL they put in mission trees. Feel that was a slight downward slope but at least they ended support after they saw people did not like it, rather than back peddle they made this bloated, slow, boring game instead. Shame though. It is a downside of being the only people who made these types of games, from EU3-Mid HOI4 I would say was their golden era. I loved every game with hundreds of hours invested into any sub grand strategy they released with Imperator being the reveal that everything they were pumping out was just gold painted ♥♥♥♥. Off the top, I think that is the same time the introduced missions in EU4.
Gsme is not finished! Do not but buy this overpriced crap!!!
I love this game, is it a work in progress? yes. is it unfinished? no. The base game is complete. You start in 1337, weather the black plague, then set out to conquer the known world and to discover and conquer the new world. The economy mechanics are deep, people complain a lot about this but there are much easier less complicated games out there, you did sign up for EU5, not EU4 or anything else that came before. The wars are engaging, not as deep as HOI4 but much better than VIC3. They are constantly making it better using our feedback and being very open about the development and whats in store. The campaigns are long, There can be 20 year lulls where your just waiting for your economy, population, or research to hit a certain point, then something can pop off and its chaos again. If this is your niche and you like to hyper focus like i do this might be your thing, if your not a hardcore strategy gamer that likes deep and engaging systems, maybe skip this one so you don't have to come back and leave a bad review.
