Empress Of The Deep 2: Song Of The Blue Whale - квест-приключение от разработчика Gogii Games, изданное небезызвестной канадской студией Strategy First.
Empress Of The Deep 2: Song Of The Blue Whale, как и в первой части, все также выстроен по принципу классического квеста с элементами point and click и внезапными головоломками.
Good game. Story is ok but I don't think I understand all. HOG scenes is better in this game then in first game. Puzzles is ok and not too hard. Cool places and art.
Empress Of The Deep 2: Song Of The Blue Whale is an ancient game from 2007. It's a whopping 16 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks proper widescreen aspect ratio support (it's locked at 4:3) or support for any modern gaming display resolutions, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. This is a pretty basic HOG with gameplay no different from your usual Artifex Mundi mobile app. There's an underwater/fantasy/Atlantis skin thrown lazily over this one, but that's just basically a theme. Does it make a difference? Like, are there people who will play an Atlantis HOG, but won't touch a murder mystery themed one? It's like, all the same thing. Once you've played one, you've played them all. Don't ask me how many of these I've played and reviewed. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This is a really old game, and if they had made it today, it would be on the mobile app stores, but it predates those. It's not clear why they didn't try to dump this on the app stores (since it clearly seems to be here as some kind of nostalgia gouge). Maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes Empress Of The Deep 2: Song Of The Blue Whale might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Empress Of The Deep 2: Song Of The Blue Whale is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $5 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again.
Continue your journey as Anna as she attempts to restore her kingdom and memories. The complaint with the first game is that it was too short and as any true sequel Empress 2 is twice as big and has twice as much to offer. Since this is a hidden object game and since you've mostly likely already played Empress Of The Deep 1 there's not much else to say, it's bigger and there's more of it, so give it a shot if you enjoyed the first game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2389293857
HOG are my go to relaxing game but I just can't recommend this one. The game holds your hand too much by making everything you can interact with sparkle and basically telling you exactly what you need to do. The voice acting is incredibly boring and made me want to sleep. You can't speed through conversations. You either skip the cut scene entirely or listen to the whole dialog. The only pleasant part of the game was during HOG scenes. Whenever you click on the correct item it makes a very pleasant sound. Most of my hour spent in this game was actually spent ignoring it while the screen was up. I maybe played 30 minutes but I can't take anymore. I guess I got my $1 worth.
This was one of the games from my childhood, when my parents and I used to play games every night. I played it a few times after that by myself and completing it several times. Even then I noticed the great visuals, art style and sound effects. And now I just remembered this game from somewhere (I think I just heard the sounds from another game and remembered) and immediately wanted to buy it to have it and play it again. And I managed to complete it in just 2 hours, including the ZEM with a gold trophy. The game may be quite unusual and strange for today's standards and games in general nowadays. However, despite this, this is a really great game, with an extremely pleasant story and easy to understand, at the same time the fantasy is captivating enough. And literally the game has great and incredible visual effects, especially for that time. And the soundtrack and sound effects are...amazing, literally prestigious and nothing like I've seen in recent years (literally such a ASMR, these sounds are so crystal and clear). Back then, games in this category just had this charm in them... And there's literally nothing wrong with this game even if someone plays it today, I highly recommend it! I think a lot of people will like it if someone is looking for something diverse, entertaining and cool. I'm glad it's still on Steam, unfortunately the third game in the series isn't there, but whatever. Otherwise, you don't need to have played the first one to enjoy the second one. The story will also be completely clear.
my mom made me like hidden object games from childhood and I played a lot of them, my favorite ones would be the the Sprill game series made by Five-BN studios, which I strongly recommend to buy on bigfish if you're into hidden object games the game is good/ OK for a 2007 game, but there are many stuff that holds it back first I'm very disappointed how the game utilizes its resources so few. the scenery when you enter an area can be quite beautiful and makes you appreciate the early 2000s Myst-like art style graphics which I have soft spot for. Unfortunately once in those areas, you just make a couple of hidden object games, then find some other couple of stuff and that's it, you will never come back to that beautiful area again. the first game also had this issue which is huge lost potential to keep me in-game. it also doesn't help that the puzzles are BORING and EASY. you can simply just get done with a whole area in 15 minutes or less before you look at the nice scenery enough. it's like the game itself wants you to finish is ASAP like it's rushing somewhere. zero replay value and unlike the Sprill games, there is no good vibe or even nostalgic feeling present that might get you to visit it again. another thing I don't like is the audio sound quality. sometimes the game just feel LOUD, even if you lower the volume. like all the sounds are mixed with each other with no cohesion. just sounds mixed with each other, also in some cutscenes the video quality gets tooooo low, like I'm talking about 144p low despite the flaws, I recommend it for its cheapness and visuals alone
Summary
A hidden object game where the story continues off the first game with improvements mainly to its graphics but still suffering from generic gameplay. Pros + Decently fun time sink Cons - Lots of backtracking
Overview
Empress of The Deep 2: Song of The Blue Whale is a point & click adventure game that's a direct continuation of Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret and picks up instantly where the first game ended continuing the story. There are significant improvements from the first game from the graphics to the story. Unlike the previous game there is now a lot more magic and spirits. Anna is somehow able to use healing magic to cure a number guardian animals though it isn't really clear how she is able to do so other than the fairies you collect? Compared to first game the story made things less obvious but still using similar themes of trust, while also explaining far more of the story and lore. Just like the first game they focus far more on story instead of gameplay, but with the improvements to the animations, graphics, and cutscenes it really made things better overall. There is much improvement from the first game though not many to its gameplay. It's generally a fun enough time sink with an alright story, playing the first isn't required as they explain the first games story on the opening cinematic. Gameplay Most of the gameplay is simple and nothing new to the hidden object genre, they have done a little better when compared to the first game. Puzzles are still not much of a challenge though some do get a little tedious as there are now far more items to collect and placing them in slots 1 by 1 is quite a hassle. Hidden object zones are also not that difficult as items don't blend into the background, with the improvements to the graphics the backgrounds also look much better. There is far more backtracking especially compared to the first game as the final half of the game makes you go back to all the previous areas you've been, introducing you to new zones within them but they are quite small. Most of the game is really repeating the same things 4 times and the same puzzles when freeing the guardians. After completing the main game there is also a bonus secret zone to unlock a match-3 mini game called ZEM. It's actually rather fun and you can also get trophies for getting a high score.
