Maybe this is no EspGaluda II, but a modern EspGaluda by a well regarded indie dev is still pretty cool to see on Steam. Basic play mechanics are a wider shot, a focused shot, with slower movement on focusing, but you also have a button for slower movement outside focus shot, for weaving without having to use that (or any) shot. Either slow movement method will highlight your tiny hitbox, though the display is small, and hiding it the rest of the time is unhelpful. You can bomb for the usual big attack plus invincibility and bullet clearing (just clearing, not cancelling). Collect pickups to fill special meter, spend meter (must have at least 30%) on your special/super shot, which will cancel all on-screen bullets from killed enemies. Cancelling bullets or having your special meter filled will drop points pickups and fill another meter that builds guard. Guard is a single-layer of hit defense (you can take one hit, but you'll need to build back guard before another one). I've seen shmup talk of of guard spending a bomb to defend you from a hit, and taking a hit without guard spending multiple bombs to autobomb, but neither of those seem to be accurate. Guard doesn't spend a bomb and bomb is entirely manual. Offers a practice mode that will let you play from specific stages and checkpoints you've reacted. You can use continues after losing, but you'll need to start from the beginning of the stage (not a checkpoint). Does have a couple unusual options like choosing between two pickup noises and about four colors for bullets, plus there's a "blind mode" option to let you play with no UI. Sadly, achievements and leaderboards seem to have been wholly omitted. You can see your own highest score by ship and mode, but neither score list nor player identification. The game over screen is overlong and doesn't skip, and it asks you after every run if you want to save a replay. That always defaults to yes, instead of saving your previous choice. Same for not saving choice of character, difficulty, or mode, which is all small but unnecessary nuisance. Lacks the option to play with the game drawn sideways, so it could actually use your screen in the shape it is instead of running a tiny squished version of the game with big, useless sidebars for two-thirds of the space.

This is like 90% of the way there to being a good shmup but it has too many bugs and QOL issues that make it hard to recommend. Issues I've noticed are as follows: 1) Controls when navigating through menu options are far too sensitive. 2) Game hurts my eyes when the bullets get mildly chaotic. I don't have this issue with other shmups. 3) The easiest difficulty (Classic mode) is not easy. Therefore, casuals probably would find this game frustrating. Game could use a more casual friendly difficulty level to make it more accessible. 4) Boss music does not play after adjusting the BGM volume in the settings. 5) People are talking about not being to save replays after pausing during a run (which is an issue in itself). However, I cannot even select an option in the Save Replay menu after a run. The only way I can leave the menu is hitting the ESC key. Not sure if this is just a me issue. I don't have this issue with any other menus in this game. 6) Control feedback seems a tad delayed when switching between focus and spread shot. This is a huge issue when navigating dense patterns that require precise movements. Not sure why there are so many positive reviews for this game when it has such glaring issues. If the dev fixes these problems then it would be a solid recommend.
A great game with cool Design and Music, from a Dev who has made Shmups for Decades at this point. Sadly despite this being the third game in the Eden Series it strays from the Beginner friendly design of his prior Shoot' Em Ups. That is the most important point I want to underline here! If you're expecting to get eased in to the game like usually with the ones made by this Dev or even get a Beginner Level Difficulty like Heaven in both Eden and Blue Wish as Series do not get your hopes up with this one. Maybe this will get balance patches in the future. But for now this is simply a hard game starting at least with stage 2. But even the very 1st Stage isn't as slow as a start to it as these usually were! Have fun and support his work if you are up for it!
Cave-style bullet cancel/resource management shoot 'em up. I really like it despite the doujank. It's got unique levels and cool bosses. The royalty-free Japanese techno BGM rocks; love me some melodic house in my shmups. Scoring feels great as it has all the right audiovisual feedback to make it satisfying. With four playable characters and three difficulties that each drastically change the game feel, you're definitely getting your money's worth. That's a strong thumbs-up from me.
---------------------- (Updated) The game is good, but there are still a few issues to report: First, there are bugs. The bosses in stage 1 and 4 has no BGM, and the reason is unknown. Another major problem is the difficulty setting: The "guard" system, the most important system for not-top-class players, is too restrictive (unlike previous X.X games that the bombs are"guards"). The "guard" gauge recovers too slowly, as does the blue "special" gauge. Furthermore, the recovery amount the given by each item is too poor, making the game difficulty unfriendly at any difficulties. The enemy attacks themselves are also problematic: Even on the basic difficulties, the difficulty increases significantly from just the second stage boss onwards, and it rapidly escalates from the third level onwards. Moreover, continuing a level reverts you back to where you started, instead of continuing literaly, leading to significant frustration. Even if a player manages to complete one of the initial two difficulties by sheer luck, it's difficult to maintain the desire for challenge, as the effort required to complete the game is too high. Hopefully, the developers will continue to improve.
Easy recommendation if you like bullet hells. I'm not sure if the high level gameplay holds up, but as a novice/intermediate it's really fun. And it oozes charm that makes it feel like a classic. Bullet patterns feel mostly Cave-like with a taste of Touhou. If you like how it looks, I would even recommend it to someone who has never played a shmup before. Just by playing normally I think you'll get a sense of how fun bullet hells can be in the first minute of the game. And it's like Mushi in that all bullets are purple and there are no distracting gimmicks- so you can focus on the shooting and dodging.

Difficulty design is an art and this game is proof. It's almost enough to make you forget about the creepy illustrations on the score tally screens. Almost...
