Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 3.33/day in the week to Aug 4 → 6.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Prepare for the deepest, most intricate simulation of a world that has ever been created.

Not just generated geometry -- a whole simulated world. Generated rise and fall of civilizations, personalities, creatures, cultures, etc. Infinite hours of gameplay.
Now with beautiful pixel graphics!
Learn the basics with in-game tutorials
A lifetime “living” project - created/updated since 2003, with no end in sight
Generate your unique world and manage a bustling colony of dwarves, even as they probably mine towards their eventual demise.
A new endless hobby, just for you!

The legendary Dwarf Fortress is now on Steam! Build a fortress and try to help your dwarves survive, despite threats of starvation, dragons, and madness.

In this complex construction/management/roguelike simulation, every generated world brings a unique challenge, whether it’s dwarves with their own simulated personalities or aquifers. Observe what makes your civilization fall into eventual decline, and learn for next time… until something else inevitably goes wrong.
The combat model includes skills, body parts, material properties, aimed attacks, wrestling, pain, nausea, various poison effects, and much more.
It’s difficult to convey the depth of the generation. Hundreds of animals and monsters, many of which are randomly created for each world, as well as generated poetry, musical forms, instruments, and dances for your dwarves to practice and perform. A dynamic weather model tracks wind, humidity, and air masses to create fronts, clouds, storms, and blizzards. Over two hundred rock and mineral types can appear, in their proper geological environments.
Remember: Losing is fun!

This is still good old Dwarf Fortress, but with graphics support and music provided. A few bells and whistles won’t change its essence.
Classic Dwarf Fortress mod-artist Jacob "Ironhand" Bowman collaborated with artists Carolyn Jong and Neoriceisgood to create an all-new sprite pack for the game, which they continue to add to regularly.
Dwarf Fortress also has hours of music in a two-volume soundtrack by Dabu and Simon Swerwer, including tracks in the Dwarvish language!
It's never been easier to start playing! We've improved the new player experience with the addition of tutorials to guide you through building your first fort and keeping your dwarves happy.

Command your dwarves as they search for wealth in their generated mountain. Your dwarves will need a steady supply of food and beer, but they’ll also need your guidance in surviving attacks from hostile civilizations, the wilderness, or even the dead.
Craft treasures and furnitures from various materials
Establish a barony and support the increasingly demanding nobility
Read your dwarves’ thoughts to keep them happy
Build floodgates to divert water for farming, and/or prevent magma mishaps
Build structures and watch your dwarves discover and build their culture, like taverns, libraries, temples, honey, wax, pottery, animal training, bookbinding, and more.
Go anywhere! Explore any civilization, earn a reputation, and recruit followers to join you
Experience your fortress and the simulation in a new, more embodied way
Explore mythical dungeons to find magical items, artifacts, and fill your quest journal
Hints of mythology and magic as a start of future simulation enrichment to come
An additional hour of music from Dabu and Simon Swerwer, presented as a second volume of the original soundtrack

I'm not very far into this game, because it takes FOREVER to create a stupid world and when I got into the world, the controls were bound in stupid ways. For example in every game ever, zooming in is mouse wheel up towards the screen, zooming out is mouse wheel down away from the screen. This is just how human brains work! This jackass developer made mouse wheel up go up in elevation and mouse wheel down go down--which is literally backwards and confusing as hell when you're just trying to operate the camera. He should have made Ctrl + Mouse Wheel default for "Move view/cursor" up or down, and done it correctly so that Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Up goes down a level, and have Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Down go up a level. The key is that it needs to be towards or away from the screen. He got the direction right for the zoom function, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up for the other thing so badly I'm thinking about refunding this stupid game because I now have absolutely zero faith that any part of this game will be good or fun when they screwed up something so simple. Yes, I know I can rebind it, but someone should've play tested this for like 5 seconds and fixed it immediately, because they got it wrong. Maybe I'd be less annoyed if they had done both things backwards, because that would be consistent--but they didn't. They did one halfway right, and the other completely backwards. I guess this game is older than 2022, but this poor control scheme was ♥♥♥♥ out at that time and the fact that it's not fixed by now has made me regret my purchase.

The best game ever created- endless content to explore and so radically in-depth it's like a thousand fantasy books rolled into one experience. Highly highly recommend to everyone.
70 hours in, and my first fortress is somehow still standing. A few highlights from the chaos: 1. Cats breed like rabbits. So. Many. Cats. Drastic measures were required. 2. A yak killed two of my dwarves. I have declared unconditional war on all yak-kind. 3. Water is the true final boss of this game. Flooding will humble you fast. 4. Waterfalls, though? Gorgeous. Especially crashing over statues in a fine mist. Chef's kiss. 5. Ghosts do not share the waterfalls' vibe. Not fans. 6. Goblins showed up wanting to parley. Gave them an axe to the face instead. 7. Turns out goblins are smarter than expected and started building over my moat and defenses. Lost good dwarves to that. 8. Revenge is good. Their Fort is now a smoking crater. 9. One dwarf went stark raving mad because he couldn't locate any glass. Priorities. 10. My fortress got promoted to capital, and now I have a queen. She is a royal ♥♥♥♥♥ who demands only the finest of everything. 11. Giant cave bats. Why. Can. They. Fly. 12. A tree fell over on the surface and killed three dwarves. A tree. 13. Revenge is good, part two: I clear-cut every tree on the map. 14. Dwarves have an overwhelming need to be near family. Great, wonderful, SO GO TO THEM, THEN?! 15. Three dwarves spiraled into depression. Solution: spray mist directly in their faces. Somehow, this works. 16. A tamed elk-bird solo'd a forgotten beast. Absolute legend. He is the one. And that's barely scratching the surface. This game has an unbelievable amount to offer. The UI, to be fair, is not intuitive in the slightest. But push past that initial frustration and you find something genuinely special, a game where the stories that emerge organically make most AAA writers look like they're phoning it in. You get total freedom: do what you want, however you want. Then sit back and watch beautiful tragedies, absurd catastrophes, and everything in between unfold on their own. I'll be playing a lot more. And for the love of the Mountain, use DFHack. It will save your sanity.
GOAT finally on Steam
Apparently I bought this to read patch notes randomly when it updates and be amazed. Maybe also to not lose faith in gaming and be reminded of all its ridiculous creative possibilities. Might actually play it at some point.
Created a massive impenetrable fortress diving to the depths of the Earth, an army of legendary fighters in the finest armor and weapons I had. Hundreds of dwarfs living and producing underneath the mountain. Then a forgotten beast arrived, a spider of sorts. No biggie, I had a drawbridge for this exact situation, only there was 1 issue. I told my dwarfs to seal the gates, as they made their way up, a single cat had wandered to the surface for the first time in years. At this exact moment, the cat rushed upstairs past my dwarfs, to the entrance, spotting the Beast. However the Beast also spotted my cat. The cat sprints back inside the drawbridge luring the beast across before we can seal it, killing many dwarves along the way. I send my military. Every single legendary dwarf slaughtered in a second. I watch as the only defenses I had crumbled in under a minute, the beast slaying hundreds of women and children, the civilians attempting to bite the beast, my army of cats and dogs inside clawing its chitinous hide. I however witness the last of my dwarves, a child bite down and punch at the crumbling armor of the Beast. The Beast was finally slain, though my halls lay bloodied, endless corpses filling every corridor, a measly 50 survivors out of 500. We had stopped the beast, but at what cost? All our animals and livestock, slain. Protection, dead. Hundreds to entomb, it would take years to clear the halls and bury them all, ghosts start to haunt the hold. This hold, could it be salvaged? Probably, but the cost is too high. A jewel of the empire turned to dust, and the survivors scatter to the wind to tell the tale of the impenetrable hold brought low, by a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cat that got curious.
Spent 20 hours building a fortress over the weekend. First, some keas kept stealing from the stockpiles I had outside, so I had to haphazardly move all my valuables indoors. Then, a miner digging the reservoir for my fortress died while trying to get water for his fellow dwarves. Unfortunately, he didn't stay dead. His spirit turned into a troublesome poltergeist, pulled the lever controlling the water channels, and flooded the entire fortress. Somehow, I managed to fix that. Then an elk beast attacked. It destroyed everything. I lost a 30-hour fortress to a valley beast that breathed fire. And remember to save your game. Otherwise, you'll eventually realize you've reverted to a save from five hours ago, spend another five hours rebuilding everything, only to watch the exact same stupid thing happen again. 10/10. I'm starting another fortress.
