I played this after playing dungeons 3 & 4. It's missing a few quality of life things that the later games have but still holds up pretty well in 2026.
I wasn't sure I would like this. I never got into the tower defense type games and this seems like it came from this genre. It turned out to be a lot of mindless fun, and since I waited to play it, I got it for pennies! The game was a bit short at 29 hours, but I am about to start the DLC so we will see what replay ability the game has. Some reviewers have said the overworld RTS aspect made the game worse, but I loved it. The original got boring after about 5 hours. BUT... this is definitely for a type of gamer that likes Dungeon Defender etc type of games OR a gamer that likes tower defense games. This game has a similar feel with all the cool traps you can set up to kill the annoying "heroes". Overall: 8/10 Short, but fun experience. Not too hard, not too easy. I may update the review after the DLC as I bought it all (again for literal pennies). Had ONE serious bug where i stopped being able to use a unit stuck in the overworld. Fixed it by sending another unit with the "Panic Retreat" spell to get the unit back. I already downloaded Dungeons 3. I hope it is even better that this one. Fingers crossed....
