DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake

This is a lovely reimagining of an 8-bit classic, but adherence to the original can feel a bit frustrating in the endgame. The necessity of grinding and general scarcity of gold for equipment upgrades can slow pacing to a crawl, artificially extending the experience in a way that feels more like a chore. That said, the gorgeous visuals, updated translation, voice acting and other new additions definitely earn an overall recommendation; just be aware of what you're getting yourself into.

Amazing. The art is stunning and the gameplay is great. The gameplay's age can be felt at times, but the game does a great job adding plenty of quality of life features to help make the game feel new. I played this on the steam deck and a little on my pc. Definitely feels like it was made for the steam deck. Runs great and you can play it anywhere. Awesome. From start to finish the game was very fun. A little challenging at times but always felt manageable with a little bit of grinding. The only time the grinding becomes absolutely absurd is the post game. Once you beat the game and start the post game dungeons you realize how much grinding you'd actually need to do from then on. The post game isn't accounted for in my rating though because the post game feels more like a bonus for the dedicated fans out there, rather than a part of the core game. I kind of view it like the couple scenes that didn't make it into the final cut of a movie. Either way, it was absurd and felt like an insane chore. This can also be due to the fact that at this point I knew I was close to perfecting the game on steam and I started to get antsy perhaps. If you enjoy dragon quest turn based and rewarding grinding then I absolutely recommend this game! My DQ ranks! (4/28/26) 8 3 (Remake) 4 2 (NES) 1 (NES)
