Reviews
First DQ game I've ever finished and so glad I did. It's amazing. Its a great starting point and I am super motivated to get DQ 1 and 2 right now.
A thoroughly enjoyable remaster that plays to the classic strengths of the JRPG in general and Dragon Quest specifically. A simple but engaging premise, fun side quests and a soundtrack that gets the job done in lifting the scenes it serenades. A solid 8.5/10 Gameplay changes: There's a level of customisation you can do with you party that's nice. The side missions with monster-wrangling and fighting in the monster arena pokemon style is also enjoyable. It's definitely meant to be played together with DQ 1 and 2 since it's a prequel to them. The level of difficulty can be challenging especially in the post game but the quality of life features mean that you change the difficulty to made the game less grindy. I preferred this to DQ7 reimagined, and I'd say it stands toe to toe with DQ8 if maybe ever so slightly behind DQ 11

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 3: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A full scale JRPG adventure but since the original game was made in 1988, It avoids a lot of trappings of the genre that we're used to. For instance, boss fights are VERY few and far between. By the time the game gives you the ship to explore freely at around level 20, you will have fought two bosses, despite going through plenty of dungeons. It's that sort of thing that gives the adventure a no nonsense kind of feel. To obtain an artefact, you will need to go to the end of the dungeon, and thats it. There's no town in peril, no story to weave through, there's the object you need, go get it. It's not necessarily a "good" thing, as those trappings are tried and true for a reason, but it is certainly refreshing.
The game is just... fine. Just... fine. I really wanted to like this game, but the problems are so loud and frustrating I can only give it a 5/10. The best part of the game was the open world, exploring was really fun and the game effectively combines open world/metroidvania elements with the JRPG elements. And obviously, the HD-2D graphics are incredible. But the good ends there. The story is nonexistent, which is pretty sad, considering how the story is one of the big things you'd expect from a JRPG, but not as big of an issue compared to other problems. The real problems are in the combat side. I played for 60 hours and 10-15 of them were just grinding. Nearly 25% of my time was wasted completely, and I even modded the game to prevent metal slimes from running as often, grinding would have been worse just playing vanilla. The game just doesn't respect your time. Even getting into the actual fights, the game continually harassed me with RNG. I tried to plan strategically to avoid RNG, but the game doesn't give tools that prevent RNG elements fully. It just doesn't respect your skill and planning. I can't help but compare it to Crystal Project, an indie game that's similar but far better. It's a metroidvania JRPG that also has really fun exploration, and while not as graphically impressive as Dragon Quest III, the combat is far more fair, has way more depth and strategy, and even provides ways to avoid grinding easily. It's also far cheaper, so there's no real reason to get Dragon Quest III when Crystal Project is so much better. I really wanted to like the game, but I can't respect a game the doesn't respect me. Play Crystal Project instead.
It feels very nostalgic and still like something new. Quite a good remaster!
Plain text battle is just so outdated. Improved graphic in non-battle situation.
