Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Dragon Age: Origins is not just my favorite game in the Dragon Age franchise — it’s one of my favorite RPGs ever made. This is where the franchise started, and even after all these years, it still stands as the gold standard for player choice and storytelling. What makes this game so special is how much freedom it gives you to truly shape your character. You can be a noble hero, a ruthless monster, a sarcastic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, or somewhere in between. The game doesn’t force you into being “good” or “evil” — it genuinely lets you roleplay however you want, and the world reacts to your choices in meaningful ways. So many RPGs claim your decisions matter, but Dragon Age: Origins actually delivers on that promise. The origin stories alone are incredible and immediately make your character feel personal and connected to the world. Then the story just keeps getting better from there. The political conflicts, the companions, the betrayals, the emotional moments — it all feels so well written and memorable. The companions especially are some of the best in gaming, with conversations and relationships that still stick with me years later. You can tell the developers poured their hearts into this game. Every choice feels intentional, every companion has depth, and every playthrough can feel completely different depending on the type of character you create. Dragon Age: Origins is a masterpiece of RPG design and storytelling. Games like this are the reason people fall in love with the genre.

The Last Great CRPG from Bioware. From here on out, they became an action game company. That said, this is one of the best games in the entire genre. A genuine, interesting game with good story, good characters, and fantastic gameplay. It's not perfect. The character building could be more complex and better balanced. Fighters really only have 1 really useful spec, mages are op as ♥♥♥♥, and bows are useless. The story is typical Bioware: exciting pulp with good cahracter writing. It doesn't really try and say anything complex. It makes no statements about life, society, or philosphy like some other CRPGs do, but that's fine. It's just fun, and that is something that can be lacking. So yeah, good game. Get it.

This crashes more than Fallout New Vegas on Windows 11, an achievement i never knew was possible. Sadly this game is nearly impossible to play on settings higher than the lowest possible graphics and textures, after spending more time troubleshooting than my entire time working on IT Helpdesks the game is somewhat playable on medium with some mods and additional changes to settings. It still crashes plenty but nowhere near as much with the cost of some weird graphical issues when moving into different areas and requiring restarting every 10-15 minutes of play to fix things like square blood puddles around fallen foes. I hear the GOG version comes with the unofficial patches I spent time on fixing this game via mods, which may be a rare case i suggest a different storefront/version over steam. However this game does have 2 significant upsides i can still recommend it for, Unlike the sequels in the Series and the Mass Effect games the EA Launcher is thankfully not required to play Origins and well....... Morrigan who in addition to being a Witchy Goth GF has easily outshined any of the romance options i have encountered in the sequels.

I am finally giving up. I pushed through various attempted fixes but none of them stop the incessant crashing. I can't enjoy the game when every 15 minutes I get a new crash. I've heard nothing but good things about this game, and loved Inquisition, but I am so frustrated and disappointed that they would put such a buggy and broken version of this game out to the public.
