Doom 3 is a cult classic horror shooter game released before newer doom reinvented the formula to be more of a boomer shooter run and gun type. The game was pretty good for its time and still somewhat holds up in 2026 if you like corridor shooters. Pros: The horror element is pretty good , the game tries various ways to jump scare you. Has a decent amount of weapons and one of the most OG shotguns in FPS shooters. Various type of enemies each with their weak points. Has a "story" though almost half of the game. Rewards for exploration with ammo and health/armour and you can even find some weapons early. The level and atmospher design is pretty good and keeps changing throughout the game levels. Has a bunch of level mods you can try after beating the game. Cons: The game tries various methods to jumpscare you but they get really obvious half way though the game, monsters hiding behind wall panels, or the game has a bad habit of spawning enemeis right behind you at certain spots, when exploring if you find some loot well get ready to consume it right away because yeah that loot was a "trap" and now the game spawned some enemies becuase you visited that spot which you can easily avoid. There is no duct tape in Mars. you keep flipping between the flashlight and your gun because you need to see first where to shoot. the graphics are pretty out dated and the textures are really low , (you can fix this easily by using essentials HD mod which is a must). the story just blanks out half way into the game and you are just aimlessly roaming and shooting monster which makes it feel really repatitive. At some locations in late stages, the game just spawns a bunch of hard enemies to make it feel "difficult". Despite the flaws this is a remarkable old school shooter with horror elements. a must play if you like 2010s fps.
