Doko Roko is a fast paced 2D action platformer that could be challenging. So it is to bad there are no save points in the game. I had to play this game with keyboard (which is not really a problem) Because when I tried to play with a controller, the character just kept moving to the left or to the right. Here some gameplay: https://youtu.be/PShdqFWqLQ4
Whatever else I may think of the game, its very difficult for me to play. The gamepad controls seem to be overwritten by the mouse at certain times. The cursor never disappears and effects gameplay even when the control method is set to "controller". It seems like this "magic" swords to only shoot in one direction, and every time I die I have to put down my controller to confirm that I want to continue. After which the controller no longer works with the pause menu, settings can only be changed with the mouse. So, at this time, I cannot recommend

feels bad writing this review, I've been following this game since the kickstarter like 9 years ago, but this game is so half baked and empty. Really no aspect of this game is fleshed out. Music, bosses, weapons, upgrades, areas, combat, enemies, general atmosphere all feel incomplete, like the developer had bigger ideas for these things but didn't have the time or resources to finish them.
I have been tweaking the controls on the deck, and so far I'm really liking this game. I recommend using my control scheme as a reference point for your doko roko game. Make sure to have gamepad checked off in the settings. btw if you are having the screen flipped issue on the deck, you will have to launch Doko Roko using Proton Experimental. That fixed it for me.
great platforming, great slashing, great score, great friends, great job! for sure buy this
I played Doko Roko from start to end and I enjoyed the game. I know the game has flaws and the game is not mechanically deep, but I still feel like it’s a good game. The aesthetics of this game is on point. Some of the levels can get a little bright, but I can assure you they all look amazing. The Inventory management and decision making are there as well, but there aren’t a variety of choices to make. The choices revolve around picking swords and thinking about what will you use them for: Fighting the boss or Farming in the world. At this point in time the game has some visibility issues. It can get bright and it sucks, but Doko Roko isn’t “Unplayable” as people claim. Try Doko Roko and you might be able to see what I see for potential this game has. Fun Fact even the dev has seen my video likes what I suggested. If you need more convincing consider watching my review too. Play the game, give Doko Roko a try. Video: https://youtu.be/E9jbxiJs6Es
This game is gorgeous! And I can't say enough good things about the music and sound design. The gameplay is quick, responsive, and challenging. I still haven't beat the first boss but I'm excited to see what lies beyond.
I honestly don't remember backing the kickstarter. From the little time I have played it, it's been a mixed bag. On one hand, the visuals are absolutely gorgeous, but on the other hand I don't understand at all where I am supposed to be going. This would be fine if exploration were enjoyable but the combat doesn't really feel that impactful nor does it feel there's a considerable amount of weight behind your swings despite the fact you're gonna be lugging around swords many times your size. I tried playing it on a Playstation 4 controller and as others have mentioned, only keyboard/mouse inputs work when you die so that's super annoying considering the game expects you to die over and over again given the roguelike gameplay. Plus, you need to adjust the dead zone otherwise your character will just keep running left or right constantly. Even then, it never really feels like you have adequate control over him because it always feels like there's a delay between when you let go of the joystick and when he stops sliding. Maybe I need to adjust the dead zone a bit more but regardless, I just can't find myself enjoying the game as is until these things are fixed, at the very least.
