The princess needs her pudding in this brand new take on the venerated Disgaea franchise. Take direct control of the action as N.A., a mercenary with a discerning sweet tooth, as you mow down monsters in the name of money.
Equip weapons from seven different classes to play in seven different ways! Whether you want to use the tried-and-true sword or the ranged bow, you can always switch your weapon to switch up the way you play!
The more things Magichange, the more they stay the same! Grind levels, improve your equipment, and pass new bills at the Dark Chocolate Assembly to make the numbers go up until you're dealing a million damage with every hit! You can even recruit classic demons like the Prinny to bring along with you!
It's time to experience Disgaea in a whole new way!
Magichange into Action: Take direct control of the combat in this action RPG spinoff of the Disgaea series! Beat down hundreds of enemies with classic Disgaea weapons, including the sword, gun, fist, and axe!
Grind Up to Get Down: It wouldn't be Disgaea without the ability to get stronger. Head to the Item World to power up your equipment, reincarnate for higher base stats, or grind out levels to make sure you're at the top of the food chain!
Satisfy Her Cravings: It takes a demon to feed a princess! Princess Tichelle loves her flan, and N.A. loves a paycheck. By working together, they can both get what they want! Dessert brings people (and demons) together in this light-hearted tale.

This might be the most overpriced game I've ever seen. The game is actually called Kyouran Makaism and had the Disgaea named slapped on it to justify the incredibly overblown price tag. The main story here might last you four or five hours, but it only hits five hours if you spend an hour or so grinding in the item worlds. Doing a single item world early on is enough to get you so overleveled that the levels present zero challenge. Speaking of which, almost every single level in the entire game is interchangeable. You start a map, fight like 75 enemies in waves of 15 and then fight a single boss. Each level takes maybe two or three minutes. Once you beat the campaign, you unlock three post-game levels where you fight two main bosses at once. Unlocking this is a giant pain, as you need to basically bribe a bunch of voters into saying yes to a proposition. It's not remotely worth it either, as it adds maybe ten minutes of gameplay in addition to an hour or two of grinding in the item worlds. The item worlds are also the only time you're allowed to have fun here, as they let you fight a bunch of enemies in big waves. The combat's actually very fun, I think, especially with a fist weapon equipped, but it's mostly very basic and repetitive. Despite only having about 4 hours of story content, the game naturally locks a bonus episode behind a needlessly expensive upgrade. The DLC might take you a max of 15 minutes and has new levels and enemies locked behind it. But it's also level 1 content, so if you don't do it early, you'll be so overleveled that it won't be challenging at all. There's absolutely zero respect for the fanbase here, this entire game is an example of some of the purest pricegouging I've ever seen. Even $10 for the complete thing is probably asking too much. The extra annoying thing is that it would have been incredibly easy to add some more content here, with just some levels where you fight a few hundred high level enemies in the maps that would have taken no effort to slap together. The lack of disrespect is staggering.

I honestly thought the demo was just a tiny preview and that the full game would open up later. Nope. The demo basically is the game. Every stage feels the same. The maps are boring, the enemies barely put up a fight, and the Item World... what the hell happened? It used to be one of the coolest parts of Disgaea, and now it's just a flat arena where you mindlessly beat up wave after wave of enemies. That's it. That's the "content." Before someone says "well it's a musou game," I KNOW. I like Dynasty Warriors. I like mowing down thousands of enemies. This just isn't a good musou game. It's just endless button mashing with almost nothing interesting happening. No strategy, no variety, no reason to care. After an hour I felt like I'd already seen everything the game had to offer. It honestly feels like one of those free-to-play mobile games that constantly wants your attention without actually giving you anything fun to do... except this one costs real money. As a Disgaea fan, this is just depressing. Disgaea 5 was the last game I actually loved. 6 wasn't great, but I could at least have some fun with it. 7 was alright even if it didn't hit the same highs. But this? This finally killed whatever hype I had left for this series. I wouldn't recommend this on sale. I wouldn't recommend it in a bundle. I wouldn't recommend it if it was the free game of the month. Save your money and just replay Disgaea 5 instead. You'll have a better time. This doesn't feel like a passion project. It feels like someone looked at Disgaea and thought, "What if we removed everything people actually liked and replaced it with endless, brain-dead button mashing?" Mission accomplished, I guess.
Honestly, this is very disappointing. I get that this isnt going to be the 500 hours game the Main games are, but I expected something more than 20 hours. Seriously. And the gameplay is very bland, The most basic of Muso style games give more varied combat styles than this game. Its a cool proof of concept, and maybe in a second game they could make it beefier, but for this one. Im gonna have to refund.
Skip this version of the game. Go and install or buy Disgaea 3, 4 or 5 and you'll have a better time. You play as N.A. in a hack-and-slash version of Disgaea and its not as fun as it looks and its disappointing. Is it a try at a change - yes. Does it work - not so much on execution. First the World feels overly large and empty. Design looks like a worse render of a Zelda: Breath of Wild game. It doesn't look like a Disgaea game! All the parts and creatures are there but its soul is not. Game play is mild at best, its a hack-and-slash so not overly complicated, you go into an area, defeat all the enemies, and leave. Very similar to other Disgaea games but you had a little more nuance with character placement, attack range and match up since you were on a grid. Here you become a weed wacker to swaths of uninteresting characters models in a bland 3D environment. At least at minimum they could've given you mote to look at or have cooler more interesting environments to cut grass in.
It's mindless, it's short and by the gods the price tags are absurd. The negative criticism you'll see is, sadly, correct, and I believe that price tag is what compounds it the most. I feel like in a different time this would have cost a humble $30 at most. Despite that, I am enjoying my time with the game. It still feels like Disgaea to me, and I'm glad for that. Big numbers, funny moments, great designs, grinding. The mindless combat can be pretty fun if you're into that sort of thing, especially with fists. In this regard, I give it a thumbs up. But make no mistake, the negatives will outweigh the positives if you're a normal person. I'll always love Disgaea, so it kinda hurts realizing that, while I am having a fun time, it could/should be so much more. I'll hang on to H(C)ope that, one day, this project and idea is explored again with hindsight at their side.
its not worth the price but it is fun to play if it was around 30$ then i would be ok but not 60$
While technically playable, it has massive graphical issues on Steam deck making the game nauseating and effectively unplayable. The playable badge is very deceiving with this as I was unable to play for 5 minutes before having to quit. If this is fixed in the future I may rebuy, but for now will have to refund.
Disclosure: Disgaea is my favorite game series, and this is not an objective review. TLDR: This game plays like a main line Disgaea game, except replace the typical JSRPG combat with hack and slash, skill spam combat. Plot: Disgaea does Food Wars. Has typical Disgaea humor for better or worse, depending on your tastes, obviously I like this. Progression: All the typical Disgaea staples are here - Item World, Cheat Shop, Shop Level, Reincarnation, Chara World, Item levels, Mystery Gates, Innocent Farm, and Carnage Dimension. They function pretty much like they always have. Combat: Kill it before it kills you! I keep seeing this game compared to the 'Warriors' franchise. The last 'Warriors' game I played was Hyrule Warriors, and I have not played that series exhaustively; however, I do not feel this is a fair comparison and I don't think this game is even trying to be a 'Warriors' game. Please allow me to explain. In the 'Warriors' games that I have played. You use combos to kill enemies to build up your musou bar, which unleashes devastating attacks. You run around the map securing forts to control the territory. This is not how Disgaea Mayhem combat works. In Disgaea Mayhem you run around the map slaughtering hoards of enemies while spamming your skills. You only use combos when your skills are on cooldown, because normal attacks do a fraction of the damage of your skills (which is typical for Disgaea, combo maker shenanigans aside). There are no forts to secure, no territory to control. You kill enough enemies that the boss spawns and then beat the boss. Glitches: The oversized enemies sometimes have silly collision with the terrain, I found this very funny and did not take away from my enjoyment. My monster pet once seemed to disappear, using magichange brought him back, when the transformation ended. I had no other issues with performance. Conclusion: I feel like if you go into this game expecting a more or less a Disgaea game, you will probably enjoy it. If you go into this game expecting a 'Warriors' game, I do not think you will like it very much.
This ♥♥♥♥ is buggy as hell.
