Dirt 5 is a racing game with an identity crisis the driving is too arcade-y to appeal to Dirt Rally fans and too involved to appeal to a more casual arcade racing fan. The game puts you on uneven tracks that throw your vehicle around with 10-15 other cars which essentially ends up with you getting to restart a track because an opponent slammed into you during a jump in just the right way to send you careening into a tree. Honestly, this feels more like a Burnout game without all the fun car destruction. I'd avoid this one if you're looking for either a good racing sim or a fun arcade racer.

13 on sale2 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 2 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Aug 21: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 13 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

There’s not really much I can say about Dirt 5. It’s one of those games that feels like it should be in an arcade, to play for about five minutes, either on your own or with a bunch of friends, for a quick race or two and then nothing more. The tracks are okay, but become repetitive very quickly, so unless you have a really short term memory, the game turns stale in less time than it took me to write this review. Graphically the game looks nice and the vehicles handle like most games of this type, but the overall presentation is annoying and the banter from the two voice overs in career mode I had no time for and just skipped listening to them all together. The game also boasts a licensed soundtrack, but apart from songs by The Amazons, Foals and Royal Blood, nothing else was recognisable to me and it wasn’t long before I muted this part of the audio as well. If I’d continued with Dirt 5 I imagine I would have probably burnt my way through it in a relatively short amount of time, but with just over an hour and a half of gameplay, it was enough for me to decide it just wasn’t for me.

I tried my best trying to enjoy the game, but after installing and uninstalling the game 3 times over the years, I have come to the conclusion that I simply do not enjoy the game. Dirt 5 is designed to be an arcady racing game, which i understand and tried to view it that way. However, the types of races in the game was unappealing to me. At first i wished for point to point single racer rally modes, however, the most I have gotten is rallycross and raid races (not saying they is bad, i would just like more traditional style rallying, its a dirt game after all). Gymkhana modes are alright, but nothing special nor outstanding about it. One very big complaint i have is the game is with the AI. Because of its nature of close racing, it is very common to crash into/get crashed into others. Pretty sure many of us in the game have been triggered by the AI finishing you off at the last corner. If I wanted more collision heavy games i would have gone for Wreckfest and not Dirt. Besides the somewhat lackluster of gameplay, I found that the art style for the game is not really my taste. It just looked too colorful for no reason. NFS unbound had an similar colorful style with anime mixed into it and i felt it worked just fine, because of how heavy the game tries to show its uniqueness to the player. However in Dirt 5, the colorful UIs just doesnt hit me the same way. Overall, this may probably be a fun game for some people, but for me, I reckon the older dirt games suit more to my taste compared to Dirt 5.
I can tell they put the minimum amount of effort possible into making this game, which is a shame, because 4 had a lot of depth. This game is arcade but the driving doesn't feel that good to be honest. I don't expect a sim or an arcade game, but I get a terrible sim and an awful arcade game. At least the graphics look nice.
If you're a fan of a DiRT franchise, stay away from this game, for me it's the worst DiRT ever, there are no rally stages, just racing and it's pretty chaotic, gymkhanas are weird, steering is weird as well, it doesn't matter if TC is turned on or off, some cars are still sliding all over the place, asphalt sometimes feels less grippy than gravel, it could work like that, but not with the tires I've had on that car, so... Long story short, if you're looking for rally cars, just buy another DiRT, not this one.
Dirt 5 is like a driver who can’t decide which road to take, half-committed to being a serious rally sim, half-committed to being an arcade spectacle, and never really excelling at either. Instead of blending the two styles, it just stalls out in the middle of the track. For a game released in 2020, the graphics are shockingly underwhelming. The muddy textures and bland tracks feel dated, especially compared to other racers from the same period. Combine that with the structure of the game, and you quickly realize how shallow the experience is. Races feel less like exciting challenges and more like an endless grind toward the “final” event. There’s no story, no real sense of progression, just a checklist of tracks pushing you from point A to point B. The gameplay loop doesn’t do it any favors either. Every race starts you in dead last, with no qualification system or options to change your starting position. It feels like artificial difficulty rather than genuine challenge. Worse yet, the cars all drive and feel more or less the same, meaning there’s little reason to care about what you’re behind the wheel of. Dirt 5 also throws you into Gymkhana events after a handful of standard races, expecting you to pull off stylish drifts and tricks without any real preparation. At least Dirt 3 had an open practice area where you could experiment and get comfortable with the handling. Here, it’s just “good luck, figure it out.” That’s not to say there’s nothing positive. The soundtrack is excellent, giving the races some much-needed energy. And the inclusion of James and Nolan from Donut Media is a fun idea, unfortunately, their delivery comes off forced and awkward, making the whole thing feel scripted rather than natural. All in all, Dirt 5 is a disappointment. It’s neither a satisfying arcade racer nor a serious rally experience, and what’s left in between is bland, frustrating, and forgettable.
