Detective Grimoire

A charming adventure game

bit too easy, not detailed enough in backstory and solution for me.. solving was more driven by leg work than curiosity. just meh

If you've played Tangle Tower and The Mermaid Mask it's worth seeing the origins of Grimoire and Sally. There are some unfortunate UI bugs that soft locked me a few times when I could no longer drag items around in the deduction minigame. But it's really interesting to see how much of the Tangle Tower formula was present in this game.

Detective Grimoire is a neat & short Point and Click game Pros: - Unique and lovely characters. - Endearing story. - Beautiful sceneries. - A nice and fitting soundtrack to complement all above. Cons: - A bit short (2~3 hours even if it's not shocking for this price point, especially when in sales). - Feels sometimes a bit rough around the edges. I love the Detective Grimoire series! As a first installment, this one was short and sweet. Only takes about two hours to complete it and get all the achievements, which are also really easy to get. The characters and world are charming, and I quite like the music!

Almost as perfect as the sequel. Masterpiece.

decided to finally go through this whole series with the release of The Mermaid Mask and i'm pleased so far! Detective Grimoire is a cute little lighthearted (if you can look past some of the murder) detective point n click that is definitely a bit rough in a way that harkens back to the late flash era (no surprise given it was published by Armor Games, which i did not know was ever anything other THAN a flash game website. also - did not know that this technically was preceded -7 years before its release- by a DG flash game. the more you know!) but that does not get in the way of the experience reaaaally. the characters and writing and presentation are the big highlights. the Detective Grimoire world is fun to exist in and i really like the art style the series introduces here and sticks to to this day. there's a very fun almost caricatural style to the character art i really vibe with. the mystery is fun, if maybe a little too easy to figure out yourself, but hey, it's a like, 2 hour long long story. the puzzley puzzles are pretty bog-standard things that you see in games all the time but i did really like the more detective-y logic puzzles where you finish sentences and "challenge" your suspects. overall just a very satisfying package, especially for something that routinely goes on sale for 2ish bucks.
