Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4/day in the week to Jul 21 → 28.4/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Drive massive trains across beautiful, challenging landscapes. Deliver cargo between industries, spread over an open world. Earn money, buy new licenses and advance your career as a train engineer, all in seamless, emergent experience. For PC and VR.

256 km² of unrestricted open world, where you can walk or drive trains uninterrupted. Covered in rich vegetation, landscape, water bodies, and an extensive railroad network, the world spans numerous diverse industries and towns. Experience seamless day and night cycles, with dynamic clouds, fog, rain and sounds spicing it all up. Change switches, drive, haul and leave trains at desired locations - the choice is yours.

Advance your career by taking deliveries and earning money. Master efficient driving and look after vehicles to minimize fuel and repair costs. Buy new items and licenses that grant you access to more vehicles and orders. Optionally, you can also play in sandbox mode where economy is not in focus - where you can just have fun doing anything you want without consequences.

Take part in a dynamic industrial chain, where deliveries are procedurally generated for more than 80 cargo types. The output of locations varies, and almost no two deliveries are the same. Haul cargo between industries, or do the shunting and logistics that help the stations create more deliveries. Pick orders and move cargo as desired, according to your own plans, licensing and hauling capacity.

Experience in-depth intricacies of six realistic, accurate steam and diesel locomotive classes with varying transmission types, plus some extra vehicles. Through behavior, sounds, physics and interaction, their characteristics are designed to fully immerse and challenge you. On top of that, you'll find yourself spontaneously involved in coupling, servicing, brake securing, shunting and other railroad procedures.

As a side activity, you may find yourself investing time and money finding and restoring unique locomotive variant derelicts, which you can then customize with numerous useful gadgets. Gadgets are various devices that can improve driving performance, such as digital speedometers, clinometers, colored ambient lights, distance trackers, etc. You can buy them in shops and install them wherever you want, using various tools.

Built from the ground up for both PC and VR, Derail Valley lets you experience it spatially present with the supported mainstream PC VR devices - truly inside the simulator and using your own hands to operate the controls. This is the ultimate, closest experience to being a real railroader! You can seamlessly alternate your progress between the PC and VR sessions, as you prefer.

Be it a derailment, collision, blown traction motor, boiler explosion, brake failure, HAZMAT disaster or even something as mild as wheelslip on a rainy slope, Derail Valley doesn't just present you with a popup screen when you make a mistake - you get to experience the full consequences of your actions, even if they're a rare occurrence.
Whether you are new to trains or an experienced veteran, the game features tutorials that are quick to get you going. A comprehensive user manual also exists, for when you want to dive deep into the details.

This is a masterpiece. The first thing that came to mind about what to compare this simulator/game to was to far cry 2. I think saying that Derail Valley is the Far Cry 2 of train simulation games would be accurate. The world is just waiting to be explored. Nothing physically stops you from going out and doing whatever you want, aside from licenses you have to buy when advancing in the game. Driving the locomotives is great fun, the controls feel physical and realistic. The game is beautiful - the graphics are amazing and the scenery is perfect. You find yourself looking on 3rd view how your train crosses a bridge over water without noticing you miss a turn or being to fast and derailing. The fact that it's in early access should not scare you - this game is more finished then most AAA games coming out in the recent years. The devs keep adding more features to this gem of a game, the support and love is phenomenal. Most importantly, the fun factor. I found myself just being sucked into the game completely - hours just pass when you want to do a job before the time bonus expires. This is a 10/10.
At lot of content and realism in a game from a small studio At first glance, it seems like there is is some polish needed, but considering this studio is substantially smaller than others cranking out train games with DLC every year or so, it's actually quite impressive. Sure, you'll find graphical bugs here and there, but the physics for this game are spot on. Too fast on a curve? Derail. Hit the brakes a little too fast? There goes your cargo. Went by a tree and vegetation overgrowing the tracks? It moves instead of clipping through the train. Starting off in the standard mode, you'll be working with what are essentially shunting engines, smaller locomotives that are easy to manage and cheaper to maintain, before progressively working up to larger ones of varying types, following a career path of sorts. Sandbox mode lets you enjoy railroading with all the wonderful aforementioned physics, without the financial consequences that might follow, among other benefits such as spawning a locomotive where you are, rather than sometimes having to hunt one down. Among other things, a neat little feature the creators added was a level of randomization. Switches may be pre-set per session to specific ways, and the unique museum trains are randomized. While that does mean you can't necessarily speed run finding and restoring all of them, that does add a bit of discovery, since their locations are specific to your session. Well worth the price of admission and still looking forward to what the creators might add farther down the tracks
Great game as it currently is, but some polish would make it even better. (Review for version B99.7) Things that could use some polish: - environment should not clip into the rail section (ex. the rails should not be hidden by the landscape going through it) - there should not be clipping environment details (ex. some stones are able to be looked under / going from IMW to MF there is the mountain clipping into the tunnel) - some geometry just looks very jagged beside the rails - some rails just seem to be floating (also able to be looked under) - some speed changes can be very sudden There are also some annoying bugs i encountered: - sometimes the brake pipe on a wagon may just disappear, requiring to go a bit away for it to re-spawn - the Harbor rails sometimes just keep flickering or look like they are moving (i have not encountered it in any other station) Aside from those, it is still quite playable and fun, though i do await future updates, which include but may not be limited to: - option for persistent jobs - own more of the same type of locomotives - persistent locomotives (currently they despawn if you dont own them) - passenger jobs - some line where you can actually go high speed for a good amount of time Note that this review is for the base game without mods, though the modding community also looks quite active already. Played via Proton.
Been playing since 2021 or so, somehow this game keeps me playing. Never felt a train game like this one.
This makes my tistic self very happy. It has trains, like in real life too. What more could you want? Naked trains? Probably not here, but that's okay, because there are still trains and you can train them to train and they train all over the place and they go choo choo and chuggachugga and stuff and it's amazing and that's really all you could ever need. No more perfect of a train sim if I do say so myself, a fellow train expert in all things trains stuff. Yeah. Trains.
