Reviews
Having spent time with Democracy 4, I found myself increasingly disappointed with how little the game offers in terms of engagement or immersion. On paper, the concept of running a country through policy decisions is promising, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The most noticeable issue is the lack of story. The game doesn’t give you a sense of narrative or consequence beyond shifting numbers on a spreadsheet. Your choices rarely feel like they have weight or drama, and there’s no real sense of progression or unfolding events to keep you invested. It often feels like clicking through menus rather than leading a nation. Equally frustrating is the absence of guidance. There’s no proper tutorial or clear roadmap for how systems connect, leaving new players guessing about cause and effect. Instead of learning through an engaging structure, you’re left stumbling until you eventually piece together the mechanics yourself. Overall, the game struggles to be fun. With no real narrative hooks, limited feedback on your actions, and very little sense of consequence, it quickly becomes repetitive. It feels more like managing a dry set of statistics than experiencing the tension and responsibility of governance. In short: Democracy 4 lacks story, engagement, and accessible guidance. What could have been a thought-provoking political simulator ends up feeling flat, underwhelming, and more like work than play.

good game, played anime country. immediate global recession. triggered immediate emergency acts and japanesu depression worse than reze arc. they voted me out for failing to stop gpd plummeting 30%. round 2. anime country. repeat global disaster. use emergency powers to enact absolute dictatorship. only one party now. install microchip in citizen for become more compliant. gdp -50% success. vote for reze number one waifu or explode your microchip
Game is broken. There is a fully repeatable crash when playing as USA. When confirming Election Campaign Strategy for the second term, all three save files lock up. I have not tried playing as a different country. Refunded.
This feels far more complicated than you would think as I am not sure what spreadsheets and graphs do or mean after playing a few rounds. It is good to see how complicated politics can be when you take your ideals and put them into policy but it does take the fun out of it knowing how expensive this collection of mock political data can be. If you like busy work or a teacher trying to explain how politics works in the modern era and not just a School House Rock level of understanding, then I would recommend this game but I tend to play games to feel smarter than I actually am and to feel better about myself than I actually do.
Ganz nett. Technisch spielbar. Aber voller Rechtschreibfehler.
As USA no matter what you do your country will have a budget deficit that leads to getting downgraded on credit which leads to a spiral of your economy doing worse and worse. I think the idea was to make the game like recent years have been but it is far too fast and difficult compared to real life. It doesn't take into account the political power of the US to not have to worry about its debts. This game was quite fun for most of its existence but the last update has seriously ruined it
