About
In the 1980s, Defender of the Crown helped define a new kind of cinematic strategy game. Now it returns, rebuilt for modern platforms and remastered with an entirely new way to play.
Conquer territories, raise armies, storm castles, and shift the balance of power. It's the Defender of the Crown you remember - just sharper, cleaner, and built for today.

Retro Mode. The original Amiga classic, preserved with near-perfect authenticity and quality-of-life enhancements.
Classic Mode. Amiga classic reimagined for today. A completely new visual identity, refined mechanics, and smoother systems.
Kingdom Mode. An entirely new challenge. Procedurally generated maps, special dice mechanics, unlockable abilities, and multiple difficulty levels to keep every run unpredictable.

Everything that made the original special is intact: the ruleset, the pacing, the atmosphere. What's changed is everything around it - cleaner systems, improved balance, a modernized interface, and quality-of-life updates throughout.

ENGLISH VERSION This remake is like restoring a classic 1950s Fiat 500: you don’t judge it by how fast it goes on the highway, because that was never the point. The value lies in bringing a piece of history back to life — faithfully, respectfully, and with care. This is the remake of a very old game, and it simply cannot be compared to modern titles in terms of mechanics or innovation. Bringing back a classic both in its original form and in an updated version is admirable and even a bit courageous. It’s also translated into several languages, and some gameplay mechanics were not entirely clear even in the original release, which was squeezed into just a handful of bytes. Complaints about the price feel misplaced — nowadays, sixteen euros barely cover a pizza and a beer. Yes, the original game has been easily playable through emulators for years, but having it officially available on Steam with achievements is a dream come true for any virtual collector. I appreciate and thank the developers for their work, and I truly hope they will consider reviving other classics from the past, such as It Came from the Desert, Iron Lord, or Sword of Aragon. Highly recommended. Ringrazio gli sviluppatori per il lavoro fatto e spero che in futuro vengano riportati in vita altri classici del passato, come It Came from the Desert, Iron Lord o Sword of Aragon. Altamente consigliato.

I real dip in the past. I really missed the original game which was a masterpiece on Amiga. The retro mode is amazing a really fun to play. The classic mode is a good upgrade of the original version even if I would have refined more the graphic section to be more defined. The Kingdom mode is a really an unexplored land since is completely something new to try your hand. For sure I will spend hours on this game.
Welcome back, Defender of the Crown. Seriously this was the greatest game ever on Amiga and it's the greatest game ever on PC.
True to the original, still playable, plus a remastered original, whatever your pleasure, plus a whole new game mode that was legitimately understandable, fun, and relevant. The standard price seems to be under priced for the value you get this is a $40 value $30 sale type of game.
Such a nice breath of nostalgia! First played the 'retro mode'. It's the old game. Exactly as I remembered. Loved it back then! Graphics were stunning for that time and this is what made the game famous, first and foremost. One playthrough lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. DON'T EXPECT A DEEP GAME! - It is not. It is clunky but charming. - It's a glimpse into the past. A piece of gaming history. - But experiencing the original through retro mode makes the new 'classic mode' shine even more. Classic mode took me about an hour. Game looks beautiful. Devs modernized the visuals while not going overboard. They managed to keep the essence of what made the original look so good. UI and quality of life features are well done. Plays a lot more smoothly, comfortably and not clunky. They made swordplay much better and cooler, you can now add troops from your campaign army back to a castle (this was one way only in the original) or station troops as garrison in a territory. In a nutshell: game looks beautiful and plays a lot better than the original. Exactly what I was hoping for - and what was advertized. One thing didn't change at all over the decades though: I just suck at jousting. Looking forward to checking out the new kingdom mode! But retro and classic are already totally worth the full price for me. Thus my positive review. Even should kingdom mode suck, this won't change a thing. My heartfelt thanks to the devs. Wish we'd see more classics get remastered like this. EDIT: People claiming the AI having 40 soldiers in a short time is cheating just DON'T HAVE A CLUE. It's super easy to get that much yourself early on. Just conquer unclaimed territories - but make sure to check them first and see how many vassals they get you. Claim the ones that get you the most vassals first (usually around 6 - 12 per unclaimed territory). Also spend your gold each round to buy soldiers and add them to your campaign army (only in retro mode - in classic, buying soldiers costs a turn - but you can add the vassals to your army without 'wasting' a turn). Additional notes: Knights make a big difference on the battlefield but are useless in sieges. And you only need one catapult. EDIT 2: @Devs: Let's remaster MOONSTONE next...!
We must have been very easily amused back in the day.
Schlechte Umsetzung !!!! Für den Preis ein riesen Arschtritt ,habe vor 3-4 Wochen noch das Original gespielt was mal wieder richtig Spaß gemacht hat .Mehr wie 3-5 Euro sollte es nicht kosten ....
I don't have even one in it, yet. And I don't know if I will get too much more. But that was my throwback thursday of the year. I can almost smell the office of my friends dad. Where we played it back in the days. On an Amiga 500.
If you played this game as a kid and enjoyed it back then, it really brings back that old-school vibe and a lot of fond memories. It’s not an outstanding strategy game by modern standards, but at this price, it’s definitely worth buying just to enjoy the nostalgia. It’s entertaining in short bursts—you probably won’t play it for days on end—but I think it’s worth the money.
