About
In the 1980s, Defender of the Crown helped define a new kind of cinematic strategy game. Now it returns, rebuilt for modern platforms and remastered with an entirely new way to play.
Conquer territories, raise armies, storm castles, and shift the balance of power. It's the Defender of the Crown you remember - just sharper, cleaner, and built for today.

Retro Mode. The original Amiga classic, preserved with near-perfect authenticity and quality-of-life enhancements.
Classic Mode. Amiga classic reimagined for today. A completely new visual identity, refined mechanics, and smoother systems.
Kingdom Mode. An entirely new challenge. Procedurally generated maps, special dice mechanics, unlockable abilities, and multiple difficulty levels to keep every run unpredictable.

Everything that made the original special is intact: the ruleset, the pacing, the atmosphere. What's changed is everything around it - cleaner systems, improved balance, a modernized interface, and quality-of-life updates throughout.

I loved the original game on my C64. I have to admit I bought this version because I was hoping for that, and more. Decent gameplay, replayability, fun, and all the hopes and dreams I had as a child, playing this. Unfortuantely, The "retro mode" is just too poorly adapted, the same problematic "one pixel movements" you remember from the 8 bit version is still required for an accurate shot or hit on the shield, which is just not feasible on a 4K resolution... Dont get me started on swordplay. This just doesn't work without the original joystick. Fortunately, there are two other modes in the game. "Classic", which is a recreation of the original game. With updated graphics and a few new features. It looks good on paper, but you require luck, not skill to win. I dont like games based on luck. "Kingdom" mode, was a positive surprise for me. It took a while to learn how to play with decks of cards and rolling dice. It was fun, for a whort while. But I also quickly found out, you are limited to about 20% of the game, because of shotty implementation of mouse click. Again, you are basing your game progression on luck alone. And if you have to get lucky 15 times in a row to progress to the next level, that just doesn't happen naturally. Had the game been free, I wouldn't have minded these limitations. Had I been allowed to do my own debugging or mod to remove these annoying limitations, I wouldn't have minded. But paying for closed code that is basically not working, I cannot recommend this game to anyone, even if you really loved the original. Wait for a better port, the game to become free, the devs to release a working version, or a trainer to come out, so you can at least SEE the entire game.

DOTC The Legend Returns was fun for 20minutes until the game bugged and freezed. I was looking forward to this game, as i played the original 34 years ago when i was a kid. I got disappointed as i lost 10 minutes of the 20 minutes that i played and refunded the game. If they bring stability patches i would buy it again.
They have taken a fantastic game from our childhood and they have only reproduced 70% of the game mechanics of the last 2007 version of the game, "Heroes Live forever", in the CLASSIC mode. The new version is a completely different game all together and it feels AWFUL, having no relation to the old game... What a waste of my money. I am only keeping it in order to have a running copy of the old original version on my PC and I will continue playing the older 2004 version which is much, much, better.
Way less interesting then Original game great graphics and nice improvements but i really Dislike the jousting in retro and classic mode specificly its to fasta nd very difficult to target the opponents shield its just pure luck if you win. its not a game i would consider enjoy to be honest. the graphics i truely enjoy but not the gameplay. if you make Seek conquest in classicmode it eneds the turn while transfer and producing army which should not be happening compares to the original game. sadly its a Minus here
Supi.

Retro mode is only playble mode, nice flashback from c64 times. Classic mode is just worse version of retro mode and kingdom mode has so many issues that don't even know where to start.
Game is a great classic.
Visually polished, mechanically terrible.
