TLDR: Game isn't abandoned until estimated update time period has passed with no updates at all Haven't played this game in forever but felt like posting a review to say that if people are going to say that the game has been abandoned at least wait until the time period they were saying an update was going to arrive has passed. Sadly these devs are notorious for not giving progress updates and long periods of time between updates, but they have just posted an update on there progress due to the fact that they are behind schedule and they have a bunch of progress to show off and not just "hey the update probably isn't coming when we said it would" and nothing else to show for it. All in all I enjoyed this game and hate to see it getting hit with "abandonware" reviews before it can really be called that Imo

The fact that the skill tree is limited to 36 total skills and you can't keep grinding and filling out the whole thing ruins any desire I have to ever play this game again. This was the perfect "turn my brain off and relax" game until I realized I had to actually had to think about making a coherent build. Give me an incremental/grind mode and I'm back.

I immediately fall in love with this game. A vampire surviros with a diablo equipment system. It plays very well and so far I already enjoyed it alot. I was quite surprised I never heard of it until I saw it on a 24/7 Stream (Replay). The only thing for me, which is a little bit annoying... for the talent trees it would be nice to be able to have a calculator. As there is a fixed amount of talent points you can spend it annoys me a little bit when I try to play around with it and always have to pay the reset cost and have to start over again cause I misplaced a talent point or I made another mistake. It would be cool if you are able to play around inside of a "preview" state and when I am done I click "apply". During this preview I wanna be able to set and reset per point so when I made a mistake in the bottom half I only have to undo certain points instead starting over with the complete tree.
Time travel will be discovered before this game releases. This game has convinced me to never again purchase an Early Access game.

Death Must Die is an, by this point classic, auto-battler-rogue-like game, but brings its own charm to the table. The biggest difference is probably, that it has a hub you start in each time which upgrades over time while you play the game. You unlock new ways to progress in further runs, like meeting new characters, unlocking skill trees and the ability to sell and buy items from a vendor for examples. My first thought was that it gave me Hades vibes in case you played that, and this isn’t the only thing they took some inspiration off, which is by no means a bad thing! Gameplay Death Must Die blends the addictive, auto-attacker chaos of games like Vampire Survivors with the loot grind from classic action rpgs and somehow makes it feel fresh and adds to it. Gods blessings and Builds The Olympian-style god system is definitely inspired by Hades, which I’m a big fan of myself, adds a surprising amount of depth. You’re not just stacking damage - you’re crafting synergies. Some runs turn you into a lightning storm. Others into a crit-based execution machine. And when you become lucky and things go your way, it just feels like pure bliss annihilating the masses of enemies that try to stop you. Gear also isn’t just filler. You’ll genuinely get excited over affixes. Finding that perfect synergy piece mid-run or maybe a piece you know will be useful for a different character. Death Must Die doesn’t hold your hand exactly but it also doesn’t feel cheap or unfair. When you die, it’s usually because you got greedy, and as much as you want to blame the game, deep down, you and me both know it is our fault (no worries I won’t tell anyone) Graphic/Audio/Atmosphere The pixel art is clean and while looking absolutely beautiful if you are into this graphic style, but also manages to never end in total chaos, so you are always aware of what is going on and the soundtrack fits the dark fantasy tone perfectly. Just one more run…why the hell is the sun rising??? This is in my opinion one of the most important factor of these kinds of game, the, “yea one more run doesn’t hurt right factor” the game nails that roguelike dopamine loop with excellence. Every failure makes you want and go again and improve your next build and try something else. Final Thoughts If you enjoy: -Build experimentation -Fast-paced scaling power -Loot progression -That classic dark fantasy vibe -You love auto-battlers Then Death Must Die is 100% worth your time and you won’t regret the purchase. Now if you excuse me please…I gotta do soooomething…
This game is potentially a 10/10 experience that offers more than VPSurvivors and Halls of Torment, however i can’t recommend this game. It should not take one year to make a single map with the complexity of a Vampire Survivors map. I was huge fan of this game, but its clear with the zero impactful updates for the past year that the developer has just taken the Early Access money and ran away. It’s only 7 euros but c’mon, only three maps? At the end of the day, this just an incomplete Halls of Torment clone with elements directly ripped from Hades, but Halls of Torment actually gave a complete game. I used to really like this game and had high hopes for it, but the game has clearly gone stale with development. I will change this review once the creator can give a concrete roadmap for this game or show progress. Too bad because the developer had all of the success and viral fame they needed to keep developing.
Yeter.
