Dead Motherland: Zombie Co-op

Poor balance and insane difficulty spikes (Day 3 suddenly swarms you with a ridiculous amount of zombies and no real way to defend against it) are the two main factors. The dripfeed of when fortifications and weapons are available to buy is really slow. There's nearly zero settings other than changing language, overall graphic quality preset, and enabling/disabling music/ambient sounds. No volume sliders, individual graphic settings, or key rebinding. I saw that on release there was a third person-like camera, so I downloaded the old versions through DepotDownloader and tried out what the game was like with that. It's basically still the exact same game but from a sorta-third person view, except you still move the camera manually with Q and E which felt bad. I think just giving the game a regular third person camera would've made it fine, but I also don't mind the top-down view they switched to. There also used to be a heavy pixelated filter over the game, and I would've liked if that had been kept as an optional setting. Here's what it looked like: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3556240792 Instead of slowly giving the player the ability to buy new fortifications and weapons based on how many days they've survived so far, they should've just set up a shop somewhere on the map to work towards reaching, or made everything available to buy so you can decide what to save up for. I like the fortification sytem in general, I love top-down zombie shooters that let me build defenses. But only being able to place sandbags and a burning barrel (which is only used as a light source) three days in, when that difficulty spike hits and you've got 40+ zombies attacking your barricades.. ridiculous. I wonder how many people have ever even reached the truck in this game. The lack of any sort of permanent progression is disappointing, and there's no way to save and quit. There's no map of any sort, so you can't tell where you've unlocked paths for except by slowly walking back through the whole area, which reminds me that the stamina is way too low, you can run for about 3 seconds. [b]TL;DR:[/b] Had potential, but not worth playing even for the 89 cents it's currently on sale for. There are far better similar top-down games.
