Curved Space is a fast-paced arcade shooter developed by Only By Midnight Ltd. and published by Maximum Games. The game draws heavy inspiration from classic twin-stick shooters while introducing a distinctive gameplay twist through its curved environments. Instead of fighting across flat arenas, players pilot a spacecraft across warped surfaces that bend and wrap around planetary structures, asteroids, and futuristic installations. This unusual approach to level design creates a constantly shifting battlefield where enemies and projectiles travel along curved paths, giving the game a unique spatial dynamic that sets it apart from many traditional shooters. The game places players in the role of a space pilot working as an energy harvester in a distant part of the galaxy. During what should be a routine mission, mysterious mechanical spider-like creatures begin attacking installations and asteroid fields, turning a simple job into a fight for survival. As the pilot moves from sector to sector battling these hostile machines, fragments of a larger mystery begin to emerge. While the narrative is not particularly deep, it provides a light framework that connects the missions together and gives context to the ongoing battles. Dialogue between characters occasionally appears throughout the campaign, helping to establish the setting and hint at the origin of the alien threat. Gameplay follows the classic twin-stick shooter formula, with one control stick used to maneuver the spacecraft while the other directs the ship’s weapons. Players must navigate arenas filled with enemies while continuously firing in multiple directions, destroying threats and avoiding incoming attacks. The curved environments dramatically change how this familiar gameplay feels. Because the terrain bends around spherical or cylindrical surfaces, enemies can approach from unexpected directions, sometimes appearing above or below the player as the battlefield wraps around itself. Projectiles follow the curvature of the environment, creating combat situations where bullets travel along the surface rather than in straight lines through empty space. The intensity of combat increases steadily as players progress through the campaign. Early levels introduce basic enemy types and allow players to become familiar with the unusual movement mechanics of the curved arenas. Later stages add more aggressive enemies and dense projectile patterns that demand quicker reactions and careful positioning. Boss encounters serve as major highlights, presenting large mechanical creatures with complex attack patterns that force players to adapt their strategies and fully utilize the game’s movement system. A major component of the gameplay loop involves collecting power-ups and weapon upgrades during battle. Enemies often drop temporary enhancements that dramatically alter the ship’s offensive capabilities. Players may pick up weapons such as energy beams, spread-shot cannons, missile launchers, flamethrowers, or other experimental technology. Because these upgrades change the way the ship attacks, they encourage players to experiment with different playstyles depending on which power-ups appear during each stage. Health pickups and other bonuses also appear throughout the arenas, rewarding players who take risks to collect them during intense combat situations. Beyond the main story campaign, the game includes several additional modes designed to extend replayability. Arena challenges, survival modes, and endless wave scenarios allow players to test their skills against increasingly difficult enemy encounters. Daily challenges and leaderboard rankings encourage competitive play by allowing players to compare their performance with others around the world. These modes reinforce the game’s arcade roots by focusing on score chasing and skill mastery rather than narrative progression. Visually, Curved Space stands out through its colorful and energetic science-fiction aesthetic. The game’s environments feature glowing cosmic backgrounds, floating asteroids, neon energy effects, and futuristic space structures that emphasize the strange geometry of the battlefield. While the graphical fidelity is not extremely detailed, the art direction is vibrant and visually distinctive. The curved environments themselves become the centerpiece of the visual design, giving each stage the feeling of a miniature planet or rotating mechanical world drifting through space. The game’s audio design also contributes significantly to its identity. The soundtrack features energetic synthwave and electronic music that captures the spirit of classic arcade shooters while adding a modern futuristic flair. The music drives the pace of the gameplay and complements the frantic action occurring on screen. Sound effects for weapons, enemy explosions, and environmental interactions provide satisfying feedback during combat, reinforcing the intensity of each battle. Despite its creative concept, the game is not without flaws. The curved perspective, while visually impressive, can occasionally make navigation confusing, especially when enemies attack from areas that are temporarily out of the player’s view. During particularly chaotic moments, it can be difficult to maintain awareness of the entire battlefield. Additionally, the core gameplay loop of fighting waves of enemies and collecting upgrades remains fairly consistent throughout the experience, which may cause some repetition over longer play sessions. Even with these limitations, Curved Space manages to deliver an engaging arcade shooter that feels both nostalgic and inventive. The combination of fast reflex-based combat, unusual level geometry, and vibrant audiovisual presentation creates a gameplay experience that is both challenging and visually memorable. For players who enjoy classic twin-stick shooters but are looking for something with a fresh mechanical twist, the game offers an entertaining blend of familiar action and creative design. Overall, Curved Space is a stylish and energetic shooter that successfully experiments with the geometry of its environments to create a distinctive arcade experience. While its gameplay loop may become repetitive for some players, the unique curved battlefields and fast-paced combat provide plenty of excitement for fans of the genre. Rating: 7/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I am liking this game so far! I had to wade through a lot of cheapy twin sticks on steam search to find this gem. Also it runs flawlessly on Linux!
It is a bit like Tempest the Arcade game except with free movement and all kinds of stuff. It is quite well made. It has voice acting and everything. I got this game from a Fanatical Mystery Bundle.
Really gorgeous looking game with some seriously fun, innovative mechanics.
A very cool twin-stick shooter. Its standout feature is of course the traditional 2d twin-stick gameplay mapped to 3d surfaces. But there is a lot of depth here beyond that one hook. There is a good selection of weapons that provide quite a lot of variety. Playing with the beam weapons as they wrap around the surfaces of the arenas is probably my favorite thing in the game. The lash mechanic is loads of fun as well. There are score-attack game modes, and a number of score based gameplay mechanics, but I've mostly ignored those and played the campaign. The amount of content in the campaign is impressive, and there are some nice twists that surprised me. I found the default camera to be too tight in and twitchy for my taste, but it's highly configurable. A minor complaint and word of warning: when you finish a campaign boss battle and choose an upgrade, the upgrade UI has an option to return to the main menu. Don't click it! You have to continue playing and let the game exit the level. Otherwise the game won't save your progress, and you'll need to replay the level. The game does warn you, but I found the whole thing unintuitive enough that I lost progress twice before I understood what was happening. There is so much cool stuff going on in this game. If you like twin-stick arena shooters, and particularly if you like the score-attack variety, then you need to check this out!
A space-themed shooter that I was looking for. I already have it on Xbox, and can't describe that sensation of going 360 killing spiders with epic weaponry. 11/10
