About
The Culdcept series has captivated players worldwide. Now, the original masterpiece returns, enhanced with convenient new features.
Build your deck from over 300 types of cards and witness the dawn of a new battle among Cepter.
On the continent of Bablashca, where the chief god Culdra once clashed with the neutral god Baltias, humanity—Culdra’s final creation—had long flourished.
However, the world fell into chaos when stone tablets discovered across the land were revealed to be fragments of "Culdcept"—the Book of Creation and Destruction.
Driven by the mythical prophecy that "he who commands the Culdcept shall gain infinite power," Cepter began to fight one another over the scattered fragments.
As the ravages of war spread, a lone youth finally rises and sets out on a long, epic journey.
Players become "Cepter" who wield cards, heading into battle with a self-constructed 50-card "Book" (deck).
Move across the map guided by the roll of the dice and summon creatures using cards on the spaces where you land. Any land where you place a creature becomes your territory.
By using Spell Cards, you can manipulate dice rolls, support your creatures, or sabotage your rivals.
The first Cepter to collect the target amount of Magic Power and return to the Castle (the starting point) is declared the winner.
After a match, you will receive a random set of cards based on your ranking. Incorporate these new cards into your Book and refine your tactics for the next battle.
When you land on another player's territory, you must pay Magic Power as a toll. However, by summoning a creature and winning a battle, you can claim that territory as your own.
In battle, the key to victory lies not only in a creature's stats and special abilities but also in Item Card effects and support bonuses from the land or allies.
Seize territories and increase your Magic Power to gain the upper hand in the game.
【Rewind】Rewind the game to any point someone passed a Checkpoint at a Fort or the Castle.
【Quick Save & Load】Enables you to save and load at any time, independent of the main game's standard save function.
【Bonus Pack】Increases the number of reward cards received at the end of a match. This can be toggled ON/OFF in the options menu.
【Reveal Hands】This feature allows you to constantly display both your own and your opponent's hand on-screen—information that was only visible at specific times in the original version. It can be toggled ON/OFF, and the display size adjusts automatically according to the game's screen layout.
【Language Switching】You can play the game in either Japanese or English.
Note: Save data is not shared between languages. Separate save files will be created for Japanese and English.

当時そのままのカルドセプトなので、大人になったいまとなってはストーリーモードをクリアしてしまうとローカル対戦などできず、持て余してしまう。オンライン対戦があれば100点だった
constantly freezes on steam deck

What an absolute joy to finally play the game that started it all! If you’re a fan of the franchise, having the original Culdcept on PC feels like a wonderful piece of gaming history brought straight to our screens. Let’s be clear: this is a fairly basic port, so keep your expectations in check regarding massive modern overhauls. Instead, think of it as a passionate homage and a love letter to the fans (the release timing alongside Culdcept Begins makes that crystal clear). That said, it does come with one HUGE quality-of-life improvement: you can now continuously view all cards—both yours and your opponents. Sure, back in the day, keeping track of every single hands-on memory was maybe part of the old-school charm. But avoiding infuriating losses caused by a simple memory slip rather than a bad strategy makes the experience so much smoother and more enjoyable.
Okay. Let’s get one thing straight -- this game is old as sh*t. Temper your expectations. The graphics haven’t aged-well and so hasn’t your average millennial man, fighting for his hairline. The graphics leave much to be desired, but we all have eyes, and can see that. BUT THE BONES! I really do enjoy a tactically strategically inclined adventure, and boy did Culdcept The First, scratch that itch, like an inflamed mosquito bite. Learning the system takes a bit, because I kept losing to Zeneth, but when it clicks -- boy does it click. The major issues would be game balancing, having the right cards, at the right time can make, or break a deck. There’s no in-game system to buy additional cards, but I guess that's why the system allows you to put bonus packs in victories. Plus, the CPU is kind of silly. Zeneth especially, doesn’t understand the symbols are like stock and refusing to buy them prevents your wealth from skyrocketing, when you invest in your properties, or other players properties to take advantage of their investments. The CPUs also refused to trade. We're both far from victory, the other play is coming up first. We need to cooperate to bring down his wealth, like the stock market crash of the 1920’s. He just bankrupted you. Zeneth you don’t have a pot to piss in, or a leg to stand on, give me this territory! Zeneth would rather lose, before giving the player character an inch. The story is bland and uninteresting, but obviously the target audience is children, based on the characters, design and lack of depth. I paid like 26.99 for the game, in total, spent like 40 hours, all in all 0.67cents per hour, so I got my money's worth. Culdcept The First, is like if Yu-gi-oh and Monopoly had a baby. Only to find out, it looked like the spitting image of FortuneStreet. It was an enjoyable ride on this episode of Jerry Springer and I can’t wait till Culdcept Begins launches on Steam, to get the polished 2026 version of Culdcept. I’m looking forward to additional interesting game mechanics, an excellent story and improved graphics. Culdcept The First is perfect for what it is -- good enough to be playable, but bad enough, for you to want more.
Terrible interface. Horrific PC port. blurry low rez art/font. They didn't even try.
after it got an update that made it playable i have to say the game is pretty good i beat it today kinda wish it had multiplayer and wish it was a little bit longer but would highly recommend it
