Tags: Adventure - WS - Walking Sim Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Xbox360 pad detected. Grindy. No gameplay. Repetitive. Cute but still a bit underpar audiovisually. Procedural generation used too much for landscape and itemization. Story seems barebones excuse to send you walking around in circles coloring the landscape. Cute and vaguely interesting. This is the videogame adaptation of a coloring book. Narrative is indirect and vague, lots of grind, game is just too geographically large and full of procedural generation landscape to really care. Few assets, all of them simple. Kind of like Mountain, except more interactive. You have to find colored pieces of vegetation, break them down to color urself, and spread that color around. Lots of easter egg collectibles but they add nothing. They are procedurally generated names and are just an illusion of progress. As you get more of the world colored you will see a variety of new little geometric shapes take life. However between about 10% and 66% I saw no evolution whatsoever. Only thing I could do was pick the japanese war banners and that would allow me to cast spells to create buildings and other little creatures. It is possible to run into a giant star, which will say to talk to it again once the world has made more progress. You get to experience the glorious Google Text to Speech voice over for all your hard work. So think of urself as some kind of seeder astronaut and the star is your mothership. I am assuming when you are done return there to get a game over screen of some kind.

I'm recommending this game, but only if you understand what it is and isn't. It isn't really a puzzle game, adventure game, god game, or even a strange interface to a paint program - even though it may look like any of those. You are grey cube, rolling around in a grey world, and you bring colour to the world by a rhythm mini-game. And that's kind of it. There's a bit of exploration (but everywhere looks the same), and some collectables (that some players have found buggy), and you can discover a couple of different ways to add colour (not entirely in your control), and you can turn trees into buildings (also not quite controllably). Yet somehow the feeling of rolling round the world really engaged me. Seeing colour spread round the map as a kind of diary of my travels, hearing the music change with the day/night cycle, meeting the cute little bee-cubes; all were simple pleasures. I also had a great deal of fun treating it as a code-breaking game. The simple cipher of the Tiny Things' language is the obvious one, but there's also the code that translates your rhythm into colours, the naming scheme of the Artefact collectables, even hacking the save file. Together with taking umpteen screenshots*, this kept me entertained for many hours. This really isn't for everyone, but if the bouncing, rolling motion in the trailer catches your eye, you might just enjoy your time here. *Press "U" to hide for UI, for clean pictures.

Weird little game. It's the sort of thing that definitely isn't for everyone. I've enjoyed wandering aimlessly, watching things change color, and wondering what the heck I'm even doing. It's nice to play around with in short bursts, and there's a strange little narrative there but you'll have to dig for it. Don't come in expecting anything straightforward, just think of it more like a weird digital toy. I am not sure how I've spent so much time on it, but I can't say I regret it.
If this game has story then you're gonna have to dig relentlessly for it. Doesn't seem worth it to me
