Favorite roguelike by lengths. Seemingly infinite possible builds, every game feels fresh depending on what you get early and what you get late. There's a lot of decision making besides the pure skill that can get you quite far quite consistently without mastering the gameplay mechanics. Lots of luck involved, but you can work with anything and sorta force the game to give what you need.
This game is craaaaaaazy. The game loop is very simple and possibly repetitive throughout countless runs: start with a gun, a melee, and an ability; defeat enemy waves to get a power up; buy some more upgrades right before the boss; defeat the boss for better rewards and move on to the next world; do this a few more times and beat the big baddie; end the run to bank the victory or loop from the start for bigger challenges (and another win). Simple enough, right? But you also have the opportunity to evolve your choice of powerups in more complex ways - more DPS? Elemental damage? Criticals? Economy? Lifesteal? Speed demon? A mix of all? And the equipment you bring with you also matters - the same powerups don't work as well on (let's say) high fire rate low damage guns as they would on high power low fire rate ones. And speaking again of powerups - they come in HUGE numbers. I think there's something like over a hundred different powerups to collect split between gun, melee, ability, skill and relic powerups. Some of them are a no brainer; others require consideration of what you're actually using and how you play the game best. And if the game doesn't make you break a sweat yet (or too much), you also have modifiers. Those will, in turn, rank you higher if you can complete a loop (or a minimum of two, for even higher difficulties) - but you'd better bring a first aid kit because the game will SLAP you. And most importantly - you're a crab. And the soundtrack is just too good. I don't know if it gives anyone else the happy chemicals, but it does to me. So yeah. The game is very simple to pick up and understand. The first runs will be probably quite easy and give you all the info you need to get good at it. Then it's time to dive deeper into it, and its full potential becomes more apparent. At the end of the day, this is a simple roguelike third person shooter where you face waves of critters and/or big bad enemies. And you're a crab. And the game got sick style. And a genuinely great soundtrack. I am never going to NOT recommend people to give Crab Champions at least a good try. It's a "simple" game, but really good - especially for what you're paying for it. (P.S.: made by the same guy that made Crab Rave. If this still doesn't steer your judgment towards taking the game for a spin then I don't know what ever will.) 🦀
Carcinisation is a natural process where non-crab animals turn into Crab-like shapes.. Its a shame the same cant be said about the evolution of gaming. Other games yearn to be Crab Champions This is the perfect Co-op Rouge-like
