Fun and sometimes intense submarine warfare, very unique and intriguing game. Can be played and enjoyed thoroughly for hours, without any hastle, bugs, bullcrap, or any other problems. Runs very good too. Highly recommend to anyone invested in naval warfare or history, especially modern. However, it's not a very deep game, pun unintended. Gameplay loop is pretty linear, that is, grab your torpedos, sail to objective, do battle and repeat. The campaign just gives you a constant chain of missions to do until you reach a certain victory threshold. There isn't much else outside the singular submarine combat. No fleet combat or maneuvers, not really a dynamic campaign, your actions only affect the newspaper and not the gameplay. But keep in mind this is not what the game is designed to do, it is linear, and a good fling but it's not enough to warrant constant replay. This can be helped with mods. But this leads me to conclude that the amount of content and depth the game has doesn't quite make it a $40 game. Seems more like a $20 dollar game. Not to mention it no longer receives development. But the game is enough to keep you satisfied until the dev's next project; Sea Power, a game which checks all the boxes mentioned, releases hopefully sometime the year of posting this. Playing Cold Waters only gets me more hyped for Sea Power. But given enough gameplay time, any game can become worth the money. Except if its above $70.
