This and every other Pro feature is free until October 20, 2026. A free account is all it takes.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Rating this game is somewhat difficult because it's not my first game development management game. I started with Game Dev Tycoon a decade ago and since then also played both Mad Games Tycoon games. City Game Studio came out somewhere in between MGT 1 and 2 and went completely under my radar. It follows the same principles as GDT and MGT and in terms of complexity is somewhere in between both. You start as a small one man show to create profitable games and become successful in the business to basically become Electronic Arts and destroy the competition... You can gather data from the creation of your games while playing through the game and carry it over to repeat playthroughs. The start turns into a basic grind of creating a lot small games and then push them out the door. Port games to new platforms, fullfil contracts and unlock new tech to make more advanced games. Later down the road you can then create additional studios that can basically be automated to make games, updates or ports. You can build consoles and create your own version of Steam. The game definitely has its flaws as in a lot of aspects it gets very tedious and grindy and the management can get annoying. Some aspects also seem entirely useless. I haven't really used universities to train the staff because usually they just get better by working on games and managing the training feels very clunky and requires me to dish out a lot of money to build a university in the first place. Why are there no existing schools where I can use to train my staff? No idea but it's one of the aspects where CGS feels off. Visually it's simple and works okay. However if you for example include an event of adopting a cat for the studio then at least have a cat running around in the studio. Otherwise it feels kinda pointless. I hope that makes it clear though that there are a lot of limitations with the graphics. In any way on sale it can be fun for a bit, but I think Mad Games Tycoon 2 would be the better alternative.
Simply love how this game builds on the original game dev tycoon formula. The CEO offers a fantastic challenge, and being able to rent/build multiple studios in the city is wonderful! I sort of wish the cross platform feature allowed the game to be ported over to other consoles and pc's at a reduced cost, but it seemed to not do it in the build that I played (both normal and experimenatal.) The addition of making new consoles and buying out competitors is a great addition to the game dev formula. Simply recommend giving this game a shot if you like game dev, simulator, tycoon games!
