Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
The Executive is a sandbox business simulation game that lets you rewrite the history of Hollywood from the 1970s to today. As the founder of a scrappy production company, you’ll produce the movies you’ve always dreamed of, manage ambitious franchises, and build a studio that rivals the industry’s greatest. Navigate the challenges of the movie business, outmaneuver your competition, and decide whether to chase critical acclaim or box office domination.
Bring your cinematic visions to life. Choose themes, genres, and target ratings to shape your creations. Dive deep into screenplay development, cast the hottest stars (or discover hidden talent), and allocate your budget wisely to make each film shine. Every decision impacts your movie’s critical acclaim and box office potential, so craft your masterpieces with care.
Turn your biggest hits into long-lasting franchises! Create sequels, prequels, reboots, and even spinoffs to capitalize on audience demand. But beware: too many installments can lead to franchise fatigue. Strike the perfect balance to keep your fans invested without burning them out.
Your movie’s journey doesn’t end at the final cut. Decide how to distribute your creation: self-publish, partner with a distributor. Each route comes with unique risks and rewards. Timing is everything—analyze the market, outmaneuver the competition, and secure the perfect release date for your blockbuster.
Don’t let your past successes collect dust. Manage your studio’s library and maximize ancillary revenue with strategic home entertainment deals. Partner with distributors who are the best fit for your catalog, and invest in add-ons to boost sales. Your back catalog is a goldmine—make it work for you.
Making movies isn’t all glamour and glory. Sometimes, production doesn’t go as planned, and you’ll have to face the unexpected. From budget overruns to on-set accidents, adapt to unforeseen challenges and turn setbacks into opportunities.
Turn your small studio into a Hollywood powerhouse. Use your profits to upgrade your offices, hire and train top-tier talent, and research cutting-edge technologies to stay ahead of the curve. Attract A-list actors, expand your capabilities, and solidify your reputation as a major player in the industry.
In The Executive, the road to success is yours to decide. Will you become a champion of the art world, winning critical acclaim and prestigious awards? Or will you build a blockbuster machine, raking in billions at the box office? The choice is yours in this ultimate Hollywood simulation.

This is an uncomplete game, there's even a "trait" for your marketing team that still says "in developement". It's like Game Dev Tycoon but worse, don't play it, save your money and your time. The last update was a year ago.
Honestly feels like just a reskin of game dev tycoon. It's fine enough if you don't have game dev tycoon yet and prefer a more 'movie' feel to your gameplay, but I wouldn't recommend it if you already own game dev tycoon. bought it on sale and if you're interested i think it's not all that bad a deal when it's on sale

The game has a decent gameplay loop, but it still feels incomplete and in need of additional polish. I had fun at first, but once you make your first billion in‑game, there’s no real goal left aside from achievement hunting — and some of those are a serious grind. As of this review, the last patch or update was released on July 25, 2025.
As someone that loves Game Dev Tycoon and was looking for something similar to play but for movies, this game really fulfilled that itch. Gameplay is really addictive, and it's fun getting to unlock and experiment with different features and combinations. Cross analysing trends for genres/themes and carefully planning your release window provide an additional layer of strategy that I really enjoyed when producing the films I wanted to make, especially with the way I like to play where I try to recreate/reimagine existing songs, games, etc. as films. Deciding whether a film was going to be made for the masses or for the artistic integrity/critical reception (or both) via the commercial and critical reception of the talent you hire was also a feature I really enjoyed when making my movies. It's just a shame that further development of the game seems to have been abandoned, cos it becomes clear the more you play that it's unfinished and that the devs intended for there to be more features and fine-tuning (as another reviewer pointed out, the competitive analysis trait, which is "in development" in-game, is basically useless). It would've been cool if they added more story elements every few years or so to go beyond 2020 to reflect the current trends in cinema, kind of like Game Dev Tycoon and their updates including the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. Streaming and video-on-demand would've been a nice ancillaries addition for the later years, as releasing a film on home media in the late 2010s just feels wrong when your game's reflection of consumer trends has mostly been accurate up until that point. I also wish there was a bit more variety in the reviews your movies get as there doesn't seem to be any alterations for genre combinations, which kinda kills the immersion for me a bit. i.e. one review will be talking about one genre, while another review will be talking about the other. I'm also a bit disappointed that you're limited to both the same genre and theme when making sequels or prequels, as changing at least the genre and having those changes reflected in the critical and commercial reception of that movie could've given players the chance to be innovative or experimental with their franchises, which could've made for some interesting gameplay (i.e. think 'Joker' or 'M3GAN' for example and how their sequels completely flipped the script and impacted audience reception). For what it is though, The Executive is a really fun and well-made game that was developed with a lot of love for cinema. If you loved Game Dev Tycoon or are into these sorts of games, definitely recommend grabbing whenever it's on sale!
It's a decent game, but Hollywood Animal is much deeper. Within 6 hours I've already achieved half the goals and it could've been more if I would've tried. After 3 or so hours it gets very grindy.
It's a fun enough game. It isn't super deep and you tend to run out of things to futz with after a certain point, but it is fairly fun for what it is. It's a lot like Game Dev Tycoon but the research system doesn't feel too grating. The fact you can work on multiple movies at once is a massive step up from others of the Tycoon genre where you have to do things one at a time. The ancilliary market also propping up my studio is a nice feature since you don't have to worry about making sure your movies have the highest ratings ever, all the time. Solid for the price.
Interessante

Wonderful concept, and I can see the devs wanted to make something cool, but can't recommend this to a tycoon fan. The depth is minimal, and the skill cap is low. It doesn't try to deviate from the mad games tycoon/game dev tycoon formula much.
