I really wanted to like this game, but I just can't. Starting with the good, the visuals are very interesting but sometimes overwhelming and confusing during a run, as all enemies look somewhat the same from far away and a lot of the wall textures are very... odd (and tbh ugly to look at)... but besides that, the art direction in this game is AWESOME and probably it's best aspect. The UI and the menus are really cool. The music is also pretty good and matches the vibe of the game pretty well. Finally, there seems to be some completely optional lore that you can access by finding some terminals during levels, but it's just kinda... there. But the gameplay... the gameplay can be pretty miserable. Just for a bit of validity, I got the highest rank on every main-game level, and I'm aware of how every mechanic works. The movement is slow, floaty and clunky, and the maps you'll be moving in feel like they're empty and lacking direction. The enemies you'll be fighting in said maps are also very boring, most of them don't move at all, and they don't really have much interactions with you or eachother at all, the only exception being the turret, the flower and the weird statue that moves you to where you killed it (The best designed enemy in the game imo) but the bar is very low. The arsenal you'll be fighting these enemies with is very small for a game of this genre and also uninteresting, and you'll quickly realize that your main weapon quickly becomes useless if you want to go for the best rank as it just gives you less points than spamming the slam/launch and/or finishing enemies off with a dash. All of this combined makes the core gameplay loop incredibly repetitive and unfun where all of the design decisions work against eachother. The scoring system is the worst offender as it punishes you for using your shotgun and railgun, as mentioned earlier. The "Zoned" mechanic makes this even worse, as you'd think you have to go fast to make the most out of it, but again, spamming the same moves and milking every enemy dry of points is the better strategy. There are also water levels, which makes your already slow, floaty and clunky movement even slower, floatier and clunkier and turns your already bad shotgun into what might as well be garbage. I could keep going with more bits that I dislike, but honestly they're irrelevant as I think the very foundation of the game is flawed and works against itself at every single step. I think the game has a lot of potential, the art direction is incredibly good. the music is really good, but they're overshadowed by the gameplay experience. To me it really feels like most of the effort was put into making the game LOOK good, instead of making it feel good, which is a shame. If you're coming to CICADAMATA" from other games of similar genres, you might be disappointed, but if you're here because you like games with an interesting design, you might find some enjoyment where I did not.

awesome
A game that oozes style and outclasses the latest big-budget attempt at the aesthetic. What's the MATA with you? Just buy it already
Masterpiece if you are a movement player, otherwise, its pretty short, story is interesting, UI/UX and HUD are incredible and it clearly has a soul. 1000/10 for me, but if we are reasonable, if you aren't up to repeat the same levels and challenge your best runs, then this game is a 2 hour game with lot of style, so it becomes a 8/10, because those 2 hours are very well made.
:)
Really fast paced and fun game, I hope there is post launch content though, I know it's only 10 bucks but I beat it in a bit over 90 minutes.
At the risk of sounding cringe, it's games like this that make me love video games. I love everything about CICADAMATA" I love how to the point the game is. It wastes no time getting you to the meat of the game. I love how the game feels to play. The game controls incredibly well, and the "kill-with-skill" point system makes it a lot of fun to chase high scores. I love the level design. Most levels have a way of guiding you to a path through, but are also open enough to encourage unconventional pathing and optimization for scores. I love how the game sounds. Everything from the music, to the stomping footsteps, to gunshots and point sounds, to AEGIS's chatter. I love the game's visual style. The blocky level features and bright textures, the character portrait and all the visual noise on the HUD, even the menus and fonts all feed into it. I love the effort put into Steam Recording functionality! The game automatically places marks in the timeline for things like restarts and PBs. The game is top to bottom excellence and I hope the flowergarden team is proud. Made with love, played with love. TEAR FLESH FROM BONE
I saw this game on my Steam game calandar and was incredibly interested by it, I never got to far into ultrakill, but I enjoyed how the game played overall, after showing this game off to friends, I was convinced and ended up buying it. This game was really easy to get into, the gameplay was fun and didn't feel repetitive in the slightest, I was excited for each up coming level just to see the level design and how quickly I could get through it with just my first time seeing it. Each transistion or cutscene reminded me a lot of armored core and how you were more of a weapon being used to deal out missions, and you only get one gun, which is part shotgun and railcannon, I adored using the rail cannon, speeding around and trying to shoot every enemy in the air with the railcannon was really addictive. The movement is very reminscient of ultrakill, having multiple jumps (up to 3) and dashes that get re-charged if you kill an enemy with one, the level design in this game is stunning, it felt like going through parts of mega structures at times. I remember reading a review where someone stated that people complained this game was too woke? I don't get whats woke about the game, maybe im just blind !SEMI SPOILER!!!! but most of the story you get at the end was about I believe to be 2 girls having a breakup? well what is there to really expect from the internet, though I am still a tad bit confused on the story altogther, I'm certainly going to try and delve more into it to fully understand the game for what its worth. Though from what I caught when I played the game seemed like it was about losing and finding yourself, or maybe it was just about one. I found it heart warming to see a message at the end of the game saying "This game was made for those who have lost hope" Thank you to the developer for making this game! This was one of the best games I've played this year and I'll certainly come back to it!
