This was my first time with the OG. I wanted to be a tourist but I felt like I owed the Gods to max the death screen. I started Medium and each episode I increased the difficulty. I hate hit scanners, no cheese, and the maps made want to scream. Traps didn't bother me nearly as much as 2013. Either way, I was always running out of HP. Search for keys, shoot them on their knees. Time for selfie. What an awful right of passage. Sponges and key mazes are laaame. I only did it so I don't have to lie about it. Thanks for the bonus episode, after playing everything one after another it got to be a bit much, but if that was all I had to do and everything else was already done, I probably would have geeked. I appreciate the depth the new levels bring, I just really wanted to go home. Drive your car off a cliff? Yes.
I fondly recall the good old days spent playing Rise of the Triad on my 486 DX2 66 MHz PC, thoroughly enjoying every moment. This newly remastered version is exceptional and successfully evokes the thrilling action I remember from the original game. While some levels may be a bit confusing for newcomers, the exhilarating action and enjoyment will carry you through your playthrough. Get it if you like old-school FPS games.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is the best way to experience Rise of the Triad... if you really want to. The original version, Rise of the Triad: Dark War, is just that... the original version of the game. It has less content, less features, and untouched graphics. It's nearly three decades old and it shows. And the 2013 remake which I previously reviewed is just not good in my opinion. ROTT: Ludicrous Edition is a remaster of the original game, but with a number of new features and graphical updates. It also has restored characters and game content not available in the original release, alternate weapon SFX (because some hated the original SFX), online multiplayer, controller support, mouse and keyboard rebinding, a level editor, and a new episode. You can also swap between the original soundtracks and the 2013 remake soundtrack, which was the best part of the remake by far. At the start of this review I said this is the best way to experience ROTT "if you really want to" and the reason I word it that way is that this isn't the best boomer shooter to begin with for a number of reasons that I am sure people have been discussing since 1995. It's not the worst time out there, and Nightdive did a fantastic job on their end with this remaster. I won't say it isn't worth trying (especially on a deep discount), but at the same time there are plenty of better boomer shooters available, both new and old.
Good remaster of a bad game. Controls are terrible and floaty, level design is horrible, generally unfun. Its a product of its time that needs far more than a remaster to make it enjoyable. As someone totally new to it with no nostalgia, it's completely unfun to play. Other boomer shooters like Doom, Blood and Power Slave Exhumed are incredible games and can be enjoyed by totally new audiences like myself. Rise of the Triad however is not even close to being in the same league as those games, don't waste your time.
*Choppy gameplay on PC (I own this on both Steam and Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch is much smoother, even with both devices set to 1080p) PC has 32GB RAM, 9060XT 16GB, Steam's Overlay Performance Monitor is showing a solid 60fps so I don't know what's causing the stutters. *Missing multiplayer maps (There may be a less than ideal workaround for PC users but not for console players, so you are limited to about 10 maps for cross-platform MP instead of the ~70 MP maps that were available in previous versions). *Map editor crashes more than it should. I reached out many months ago, this isn't one of those rushed negative reviews that didn't give the publisher and developer time to fix. The last update (Ludricrous Edition v1.1) was back in April 2024. Yet they still charge $19.99 USD. Until this is fixed I can not reccomend this game. Edit: Corrected typos
EAT LEAD! HERE, CATCH! Good game, although it's a bit repetitive. Still good, braindead fun to play to unwind.
2/10 its ok
Не знаю какую чёрную магию использовал Том Холл во время разработки этой игры, но я конкретно так залип и останавливаться не собираюсь.
A fun boomer shooter pushing the Wolfenstein engine beyond its limits. The amount of traps and secrets are crazy, and in a way the game is more of a dungeoncrawler with occasional shooting sections. This does get exhausting for me, but still doesnt ruin the game for me. I will say tough it gets repetitive after some time, even tough I appretiate the devs making very creative (and often kinda crazy) level designs, like a old school sadistic ttrpg Dungeon Master. I dont think the amount of traps, wild powerups (and powerdowns) have ever been quite recrated and for its time it must of been wild (I didnt play it back then I was playing Doom and others). Still overall it is a unique boomershooter of the time that took Wolfenstein and kicked it up a notch with secrets, traps, powerups/down etc. The enemy variety isnt very insteresting, also the game is pretty over the top, but you can only carry limited weapons? People who dont like key hunting, mazelike levels or oldschool fps games i general steer away. For fans of the genre I recommend it and this version is the best version to play (Unless you are a purist, the vanilla original is also avalible) with the best resolution, controls, quality of life features, all expansions (and a brand new one as well) working steam multiplayer and workshop+level editor buildt in. ROTT Extreme is very hard and borderline insane but mostly dooable until you get to the final boss stages. Those are unbalance to a degree that are honestly unplayable, but I am sure there are some crazy ♥♥♥♥♥ out there that have mastered those levels who are true gaming legends. I am not one of those. They do warn you ahead of time that this expansion is very hard ahead of time so its made for those players that have mastered the vanilla game on the hardest levels and found all secrets. I could beat most levels except the El Oscuro levels, where I was forced to cheat. For ROTT fans and for Classic Boomer Shooter fans I do recommend this.
