Cicadamata reminds me very much of Neon White, one of my favorite games of the last few years. It's similarly fast, frenetic, and allows for a lot of player expression in its movement and emphasis on optimization of level navigation. It results in perhaps the most fun I've had with a game this year. Beyond being an absolute blast to play, Cicadamata also nails its audiovisual presentation. It's very reminiscent of Marathon (2026) with its rapid visual pulses and glitchy UI elements, but it still manages to establish its own identity with the simple color palette and more anime-esque aesthetic. And don't let the short runtime deter you - Cicadamata is a game that begs to be played again and again to improve leaderboard times, hone movement skills, or just spend more time in its strange and intriguing world.

pretty unremarkable movement and linear scoring system, on top of most of the existing problems neon white had. like the weird gay stiff a lot but wish the gameplay was just as captivating as the weird girls...
