Chronos: Before the Ashes

Recommended for all Remnant Players

This game was made for VR in 2016, so one of the first VR Games. remade for PC so the control a very kinda janky and heavy. This game work like a Resident Evil Mansion thingy, have to go left and right to go pick something to open something and blablabla, a GUIDE is NEEDED, to play for sure, If you are like me who have a bad memory or bad at searching stuff, wasn't able to complete without a guide, so if you decide to buy it, and you are dumb like me, use a guide the whole time. But i did have a fun time, and as a massive fan of the remnant series (the first one is my Number 1 Game Ever) i did had a lot of fun seeing that all the game are link together with this one too. But it's not a remnant game, it's a Resident Evil - Souls Games for sure.

Schlechte Kampfsteuerung der Character. Kaum was zu finden Kisten oder Waffen oder Heilung. Und denn sinn in Diesem Game ist auch Schwer zu verstehen. erster Großer Gegner ,ein Schlag von ihm du bist Tod. Sehr sinnvoll. Nach 2 Stunden war mir das Game schon zu eintönig langweilig.

Chronos is fatally flawed, undertouched, underplayed, and underappreciated. I think, despite its flaws and clear issues (The game has achievements for a New Game Plus, yet DOESNT HAVE A NEW GAME PLUS?), it is a significant experience enough worth your time. It is a peaceful, simple, and entertaining. While not challenging, it is entertaining and accommodating. While not lengthy, it is detailed and interesting to look at, and to experience. It has a unique aesthetic that is hard to find in a lot of games. I haven't played Remnant, but perhaps that will add to the review. HOWEVER, I MUST ADVISE. This game is overpriced to the max. I bought this game for 90% off, and that is the only way I can view this game under an acceptable cost. It should be noted this game should NOT be bought a full price, as its quality issues simply do not give it the deserved price. But, despite that, it is worth playing.

It was OK. Straight up 5/10. Middle of the road. Decent. Nothing spectacular. Passable. Not bad. Run-of-the-mill. The game itself is quite easy, slow paced, figure-out-the-trick-and-stun-lock-all-enemies-until-you-win. I would not call this a souls-like at all. I didn't experience any souls mechanic whatsoever. The fact that 3 of the achievements just don't exist in this game is pretty asinine. However, I still liked it for what it was. To see the universe the developers built in its most infant form was a cool experience (MAN, what a cool universe they're building too). I don't have a lot to say, but if you're a fan of Remnant, this is the beginning story to The Root. I recommend this game purely on my love for the franchise. It's worth it to put the 10 hours into this game.

As far as souls-like go, Chronos is a very simple and passable rendition of the formulae. You only have a choice of a few different weapons and power-ups and the only real game-play innovation is the whole aging-upon-death mechanic, which sadly ends up being very underutilised. What stands out to me the most are the puzzle-led exploration, reminescent of something like Resident Evil, where you find items and gotta figure out where to used them and how, and the graphics, as they are surprisingly gorgeous for a game that came out in 2016 (although the re-release might have beneficied from a glow-up). If you want to try a simple souls-like with nice exploration and atmosphere, by all means try Chronos, but maybe wait for a sale, as the game is rather short, it took me around 8h to beat on the hardest difficulty. I enjoyed my time with the game, but I don't think I would have played it if it wasn't a prequel to the Remnant games. As a big fan of this series, it was worth it for the lore and the understanding of how the story got where it is.
