Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.11/day in the week to Aug 4 → 5.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

Caves of Qud is a Hugo Award-winning science fantasy roguelike epic steeped in retrofuturism, deep simulation, and swathes of sentient plants. Come inhabit a living, breathing world and chisel through layers of thousand-year-old civilizations. Decide: is it a dying earth, or is it on the verge of rebirth?

Do anything and everything. Caves of Qud is a deeply simulated, biologically diverse, richly cultured world.
DEEP PHYSICAL SIMULATION — Don’t like the wall blocking your way? Dig through it with a pickaxe, or eat through it with your corrosive gas mutation, or melt it to lava. Yes, every wall has a melting point.
FULLY SIMULATED CREATURES — Every monster and NPC is as fully simulated as the player. That means they have levels, skills, equipment, faction allegiances, and body parts. So if you have a mutation that lets you, say, psionically dominate a spider, you can traipse through the world as a spider, laying webs and eating things.
DYNAMIC FACTION SYSTEM — Pursue allegiances with over 70 factions: apes, crabs, trees, robots, and highly entropic beings, just to name a few.
RICHLY DETAILED SCIENCE FANTASY SETTING — Over fifteen years of worldbuilding have led to a rich, weird, labyrinthine, one-of-a-kind storyworld, layered on top of the simulation, all for you to explore. Live and drink, friend.
TACTICAL GAMEPLAY — Turn-based, sandbox exploration and combat offers as many solutions as you and your mutations, implants, artifacts, and skills are creative enough to invent.
RPG ELEMENTS — Quests, NPCs, villages, historic sites; some dynamic and some handwritten, interwoven to produce a transportative RPG experience.
ATMOSPHERIC ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK — Over two hours of otherworldly music to delve to.

Caves of Qud has one of the most expressive character creators of all time.
Play the role of a mutant indigenous to the salt-spangled dunes and jungles of Qud, or play a true kin descendant from one of the few remaining eco-domes — the toxic arboreta of Ekuemekiyye, the ice-sheathed arcology of Ibul, or the crustal mortars of Yawningmoon.
Build your character out of:
Over 70 mutations — outfit yourself with wings, two heads, four arms, flaming hands, teleportation, the power to clone yourself…
Dozens of cybernetic implants (and more to find as treasure) — night vision, translucent skin, carbide fists, spring-loaded ankle tendons…
24 castes and kits from across the social order of Qud and beyond Moghra’yi, the Great Salt Desert
Too overwhelmed to build a character from scratch? Choose one of 9 preset characters and start your adventure right away. Then return to character creation when you are ready.

Play one of four modes:
CLASSIC — Like other traditional roguelikes, this mode has permadeath, meaning you lose your character when you die. Extremely challenging even for experts.
ROLEPLAY — Play it like an RPG. Save your progress at checkpoints located in settlements.
WANDER — Focus on exploration. Most creatures will not attack you, you don’t gain experience by killing, but you DO gain experience by discovering new locations and treating with legendary creatures.
DAILY — One chance with a fixed character and world seed. How long will you survive?

After 9 years of continuous development and frequent updates, Caves of Qud has finally reached its 1.0 release! Here are some highlights of what's been added for 1.0:
The last leg of the main quest
The new, fully graphical UI
Hundreds of visual & sound effects
Lots of polish & stability

Caves of Qud is a project of epic proportions that's been in development for over fifteen years, since 2007. It began as the science fantasy roguelike dream of co-creators Jason Grinblat and Brian Bucklew, who released the first beta in 2010. Since then, it's accrued a few more contributors who have enriched the project by helping to add visual effects, sound effects, an original soundtrack, a new UI, new game systems, new lore, and half a world of content. Caves of Qud has grown into a wild garden of emergent narrative, where a handwritten story weaves a path through rich physical, social, and historical simulations. The result is a hybrid handcrafted and procedurally-generated world that's alive in a way few games are.

Yeah I probably shouldn't have bought this game. I'm approaching 100 hours. It took me probably 50 to realize there was a story. I think I've now partially completed the third quest in that line? I still don't know what I'm doing but I can't stop thinking about this game, I'm so obsessed. It's clean, deep, rich, all the good things. I noticed I didn't **enjoy** in terms of "I'd want to listen to this later" the main fighting theme from literally the single clip I watched, so figured I didn't need to bother to buy the soundtrack. Big mistake. I wake up with the songs for Dulep and Grit Gate's enclave or whatever in my head. I was so distressed and confused by the time I got there, when that music kicked in, I could cry. I haven't heard any of the other songs, really, so I am excited to hear more! Related - I jumped into this after watching the trailer, at which point I was like "yeah when I have cash and there's a sale, I'm here." I'm not GOOD at games, but I can get into playing games pretty easily. I *struggled* with this one. I think mostly it was that I've never played this kind of game on a Deck before, so just a learning curve. I haven't played Dwarf Fortress or the other games folks were saying were similar to this one, though, so maybe it was just getting used to the style? Or re-used to it? On Mac, a lot of the keys you'll need will not be there, so you'll have to do a lot of manual mapping. Otherwise, yeah, fantastic game. I will easily be clearing a hundred hours on this one. I thought it might not be worth the price based on the very limited pixel graphics, but this one definitely has a "still waters run deep" kind of vibe. I'm playing on roleplay because I like enjoying my games and I do not enjoy misery while I learn, which is great. I think I'll probably try the one-life mode at some point, but I really do just want to enjoy the story for now!

游戏是好游戏!就是文本里太大了赶紧把官中端上来吧🤡民间汉化对于剧情党很多没翻译的有点儿不全🎮
Move slowly. Immerse yourself in the world. Look at everything. Read everything. Where there is one enemy, there is likely 37 more just around that dark corner. Your base is wherever you decide to plop down a chest you found in a dungeon. Evil Twin should really be called Evil Gang because, like a can of Pringles, once you pop you just can't stop. Fire your frickin' laser, but only if you have a torch. Rust is a problem. Liquids are a problem. Animals are a problem. Plants are a problem. Air is a problem. Everything is a problem. Baboons won't attack you if you wear a bloody necklace on your arm which is definitely where you would put a necklace. You can share a drink with a now friendly baboon, but be careful, because now everything you give the gift of sentience to hates you. You give a chair a soul and somehow it knows you shared a drink with a baboon and it is none to pleased. Look... I don't know what the hell this game is about but I'm totally enjoying it.
If you have any semblance of whimsy this game is for you
This game has this mix of a nostalgic feel, like I was playing with an old Apple II , at the same time it has all the grandeur of a game that can fit in a modern computer. The soundtrack is amazing, by the few tracks I've heard. The atmosphere in the game is worth of the Hugo award it received. Replayability is potentially endless: every gameplay, even starting in the same location, has a sort of uniqueness to it. For example, in one of the village starts, I've got down to the Joppa cave (the default start location), first level, and found this hibernating bear sleeping just out of the stairs. A dog in that level decided to attack the bear, to which it decided, after killing the dog with one strike, to pursue ME... But after a few playthroughs, I've known that this bear hibernates after a few turns, so I've decided to let it pursue me up into the Joppa village, and let the centaur warden there help me kill the thing, hopefully for a few points. In the end, somehow I got hitting Argyve, one of the main questline(?) characters, that started pursuing ME... I had to kill him. And the bear. Which really s* up the village... but I've got some very interesting things in Argyve's body... Besides it all, it is not only moddable, to the extent of writing your own code to it, but it *helps* you to mod it. You can literally download a workshop piece, it will have a C# program in SOURCE format, and the game will compile the mod code for you. Besides having extensive documentation on how to mod in the wiki. All you need to make a mod is Notepad++. Right now I'm playing with my own modded startup, where I've opted to have a lot of weightless money, that I've created, but no water, or containers to hold it, or any other equipment: not even clothes. And no skills at all. Which gives me the idea of *another start*, where I would have no money at all, no clothes, no skills, but a few vinewafers... and bumpep up stats...
For anyone experienced in classical roguelikes, this game is a must-buy. For those unexperienced though expect a decent learning curve. I suggest giving the tutorial a try and starting on any mode that isn't classic (unless you are looking for a challenge). Exploring the dreamlike sci-fi world is worth the price of admission alone. Also comes with excellent Steam Deck and controller support which is rare for turn-based roguelikes!
好起來了,工作坊有簡中翻譯版本了。
Incredibly deep rogue-like exploration experience for softcore and hardcore gamers alike. The Caves of Qud has deep detail in its visual style. Play 80's game with up to date standards. The game is served with immersive quality soundtrack (could spare more tracks surely, the game is vast and "only" a bit over 2 hours of it in 32 tracks). Super gameplay mechanics, I grew up with turn-based games and thought there would be no meaningful new experinces available. What a dreaful start after two decades of modern RTS and FPS gaming, a lot of keyboard controls to remember and enjoy the input system. HOWEVER, the game supports mouse gaming 100% Imho, getting familiar with the title caused anxiety and nausea, urge to stop playing it and refund. I'm sure others with most experience on modern style games will feel same in the beginning. I got over it in about 2-3 hours and now I consider Caves of Qud a pinnacle of gaming in '20s, offering a cult position for the title. And oh boy, there is workshop support. Can't wait to see what best enthusiasts plot for the future. The game engine and the lore seems to unlock unlimited possibilities. Live and Drink
I should probably walk into that clam.
Everyone should, at some point in their life, read Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun — and then immerse themselves in Caves of Qud. Qud is a world of deep lore, strange beauty, and brutal consequence, where discovery feels earned and mystery is respected. It doesn’t explain itself; it invites you to pay attention. This is not just a great roguelike — it’s a pinnacle of the genre, and one of the most unique RPG experiences available.
