My childhood
Absolutely one of my favourite games of all times, I can't believe it received a big update so many years after its release. I couldn't recommend this game more.

Glad this game is finally getting updates on PC. Love the bug fixes and new features. Jelly stack and dog stack have improved my quality of life
I remember Cave Story making waves back in the early 2000s, but it's one of those games I just never got around to playing, until now. Now that I have, I can confidently say that it earned its place in indie gaming history. If you're in to 2D platformers/metroidvania style games, it's worth playing. It's also worth noting however that the game was originally a free download, and the original version is still available to download for free to this day. It's a perfectly fine way to play the game, and based on my conversations with people who have played the original, I would consider the upgrades in the plus version a nice bonus, but by no means necessary. For the most part, gameplay is a lot of fun. The weapons in the game all feel unique, and I enjoyed experimenting with them to figure out which are best for different scenarios. Exploration is rewarded, with upgrades, secret weapons, and more to be found for those who look. Platforming challenges are sometimes hard, but fair. I played on the original dificulty setting, I found that for the most part boss fights maintained a good balance of being challenging without being frustrating. My one complaint was that closer to the end of the game, it starts being less generous with save points, at one point requiring multiple bosses to be fought in a row without saving. Ultimately it was manageable, and you can argue that it adds to the tension at the climax of the game, but even so, I have mixed feelings about that choice. The game's soundtrack is fun and super catchy. The story is solid, the characters are fun, and there seem to be a few mysteries here and there to unravel. But I'd argue that the story is more a scaffolding for the rest of the game than a focal point.
Love this game so much, the update was a welcome suprise and love the fact that you can use mods....the music in this games does the job so very well in giving me a punch in the feels of the old 16 bit era, great giana sisters , bionic commandos and aye mario etc...thanks for doing the update, shows continuing love by a dev for their game
i LOVE this game its a real shame that it doesn't have steam cloud support, i play between pc and steam deck pretty often and lack of saves has me choosing one or the other in this case..but its still a great game :)
