Reviews
My hours in this game are actually more than double(maybe triple) what it shows as I have played this game on Xbox, a previous steam account, on a friends computer, and on this account. The developers of Cassette beasts have a clear love for old school monster collecting games and that passion bleeds into their work so noticeably. The typing of monsters and how those types interact with each other in a sort of literal chemistry is so fun to experiment with, and the insane amount of customization you can apply to your moves and passive effects allows you to make varying builds with any creature, making your favorite creatures always a viable option to build into a team. And the soundtrack for this game? It is not an over-exaggeration when I say it is one of the best I have ever experienced within a game. I will unapologetically admit that I have the games soundtrack saved as a Playlist on Spotify and I blast it in my car frequently. In a game about monsters stored on cassette tapes they understood the songs had to be absolute bangers and nothing else. Stellar game with a confirmed sequel coming. It goes on pretty heavy discounts as well so if you're even partially interested put it on your wishlist and keep an eye out.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A unique take on the creature collector genre that has some amazing exploration design as well as fun (if very underused and rushed) characters! ...With one of the worst opening hours of any game I've ever played, easily solved and blunt combat with very little actual customizability, and a key feature---the fusion mechanic---that boiled down to PRESS 2 WIN. Starting with the first negative, in a game who's BEST and I do mean BEST feature is its open world and the puzzles within it, why did you force almost two hours of hand-holding? Just drop us in and let us screw around and find out! Next negative---Look, I really really tried to make some interesting stuff but every build (with every beast) boiled down to the same damage-dealing strats and I had no reason to interact with the SUPER COOL (in theory) elemental weakness system. By the end of the early game, I had my chosen beast, and when I branched out by around the mid-late game, I found that every single other beast pretty much has the same kinda BIG ATTACK AND SOME FREE BUFFS playstyle... or they have none of that and just felt horrid to play with. And Fusion... eh, not really much to say other than its HYPE the first few times, but fails to be interesting to play with. (Sidenote, I played on the very hard and with Fusion, the bosses never even got a chance truly show of their unique mechanics) As for the story, it was nice---pleasant even! I understand that the team was likely limited in what they could do, or had barely any plans on how they were gonna handle the stories of so many characters at once. But, in the end, what we got was what we got, rushed and underused plotlines that I really wish we got to see the full potential of. Onto the one (and only) BIG positive I got for the game, it's exploration. God, oh god, its exploration is so fun. It reminded me of my first time playing through Breath of the Wild. Hats off to whomever handled that, saved the game from being a overall mediocre experience. Do I hate this game? By no means at all! Do I like this game? ...Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I don't recommend it unless you already are in love with the Creature Collector genre, and I do think my time could have been better spent elsewhere. HOWEVER, I really do believe that this game's sequel (if it ever gets one) could be a genre-defining masterpiece, its just a matter of expanding on what's good and getting rid of what's bad. Easier said then done, but I truly see this team capable of doing so.
Probably some of the best ever poke-likes around. Amazing music and vibes, sensible and fun gameplay, and entertaining characters. (And seriously. If you take one thing from this review, listen to the soundtrack.)
This was a fantastic game I never really enjoyed Pokemon too much because I guess I was already pretty old when it became popular but I love creature collectors and games like SMT and even Dragon Quest 5 kept me busy for months. This game took all of the best ideas from all of them and made them so much better! I had to force myself to stop and finish it because it was just a bit too addictive.
A decently entertaining Pokemon-like that does put some spins on the genre and also has a nice OST, but there's way too much frustrating, poorly-designed jank in this game for it to be worthy of a 95% on Steam. Frankly that's a clickbait rating. Battles can be insanely sluggish with no ways to speed them up, the overworld is clunky at best, pacing is weird due to how often you have to teleport to heal, and the human sprites are ugly as sin. But beneath these flaws there is an addicting game and I do have high hopes for the sequel. I'm not kidding about the overworld being clunky, my game soft-locked trying to infinitely turn on a floor switch and I had to close it and re-do the captain fight I just finished.
Co-op does not let you play the story??? nice bait so called "co-op" aka cuck chair gaming
very gay
Seems fun, too bad with it has a ton of issues with AMD drivers. I have tried everything on the wiki attempting to fix them to no evail aswell as stuff on the reddit. If I am not having a stroke from the flashing visual bugs I am freezing and crashing for no reason. I tried to give this game a 2nd chance but I can't at least on an AMD PC.
This game is too awesome especially the music! It's constantly in my playlist, and I can't wait for the next game!
Poke-what? This game is great! At first was a bit hard for me since there are so many types of monster, had to learn what is good against what, but it has great mechanism, more deeper strategy than pokemon also, better made really (proven if u play it). I have not played online yet, but i wish there was more of the game, more monster, more transformation, and it has a lot, over 100, not sure how many yet. Its already descent long game, the world is kinda open, you can explore the world in different ways than other players. Open map. I Hope a part 2 comes, with even more monster. and some types should have more weakness or advantage against types, atleast i believe. I had more to say but forgot, but its a great game if you into monster games like pokemon, digimon.
