About
Please note as of October 2024, the online features for this game will no longer be supported.
Call of Juarez is an epic adventure western themed FPS game. The player alternately assumes the roles of two distinct, antagonistic characters: a sneaking fugitive Billy and his hunter the reverend Ray. Apart from the highly interesting, emotional and psychological aspect of the link between the two characters, the player will experience a variety of gameplay with many differences whilst playing a particular character.
The game features fast paced revolver duels using historically accurate firearms, horseback riding, mounted combat and stealth actions in memorable locations set after Western movies. Emergent gameplay based on accurate simulation of not only rigid bodies and rag-dolls but also liquids, gases, fire and smoke makes the gameplay innovative and non-linear.
Very serious approach to the Wild West theme and detailed reconstruction of the character and visuals of that times
The use of physics and innovative simulation of fire, liquids, dust, smokes and gases to construct emergent gameplay
State of the art graphics making use of the top technology graphics cards features on todays cards
Playing 2 distinct characters with different abilities and different gameplay
Horseback riding and saddle shooting, gunfighter duels
Using the whip to fight, move objects and move the player's character
Legendary weapons form the Gold Fever era and full akimbo mode for the hands on approach
Exhilarating storyline with full of twists and turns in this exciting Western Genre.

Game runs pretty smoothly, except on Linux DirectX10 does not work. The Story is pretty well, other than that i dont see how the game, even for 2007 was any good. The movement is so clunky that i had to change the game data just to make it fun moving around. The shooting is no fun, since you just have a revolver most of the time with such an enourmus spread, that is just luck if you hit an enemy or not. Really not worth buying.
It's a diamond in the rough, and the age is clearly showing in some places - but a fun experience nonetheless. The game looks very beautiful even now (play on DX10), and the scenery is very varied: towns, caves, mountains, even lakes. The story starts a bit slow but it's good and very interesting to follow as it unfolds. The protagonists have actual depth - they have a driving purpose and evolve throughout the game, but I think that Rey is more fleshed out than Billy. The gunplay is where the game shines, more so when you play as Reverend Rey. Headshots are always fatal, enemies ragdoll, you can dual wield pistols and use slow-mo to gun down everyone in front of you as you raise your pistols - very fun to use. There are custom maps on moddb and also a multiplayer fix, but the servers are empty, I guess no one plays this thing anymore... There is bad, however:

Some chapters are not as fleshed out as the others, mainly the first couple ones where you play as Billy, and you have to do parkour as you dodge enemy fire. You also need to jump across chasms by using a nearby tree branch and your rope - the most broken piece of ♥♥♥♥ I have ever had the misfortune of using in a videogame. Seriously, parkour in this game with the rope is AWFUL, and it almost made me quit. There are also moments when you are put in front of a bunch of enemies with very little cover - basically saying "♥♥♥♥ you, now deal with it".
Shooting on horseback is a buggy nightmare - the bullets will never go where you think they would. Sometimes I think they just go into a parallel universe. The scenes that force you into doing this suck balls because of it.
The game features a lot of time-sensitive scenes where you have to move quickly - sometimes you won't know what to do and fail - and that just become frustrating, they're used way too much.
Hurting dead bodies ends the game...what ? Are you serious ? In a game all about cold-blooded outlaws, I can't shoot a dead body ? This also applies to friendly, living NPCs, and it ruins the immersion IMO.
Saves/Quicksaves take more time than you would think, the game freezes for a couple of seconds and that becomes pretty annoying to deal with.
If you like games with a western theme and don't mind the jank, this one is very good - and the whole franchise in general. There are guides on steam to show you how to remove the annoying black bars and customize the fov. For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It was a good game, but it has some problems since it is an old game. If you get crash problems during loadings, then try loading that sequence with dx9 safety mode, with Windows Vista compatibility pack. In addition to that, it has problem of sparse checkpoints so, make a habit of spamming F5 for quick saves.
A game which is at times clunky and misshapen, but also often gritty and admirable for its reach. This was 2006, and we were still in the process of figuring out how to structure and design sweeping three dimensional narrative titles. Yes this is an FPS, but it is also at times an awkward 3D platformer, a sort-of-open world adventure, a stealth game, and a throwback to Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns. The gunplay ranges from awful to quite good, depending on what you happen to be wielding. I understand the desire to create a sense of progression, but the early rusty poopoo-peepee guns you spend the first third of the game carrying around often leave you feeling at the mercy of luck rather than skill as bullet trajectory veers wildly from one shot to the next. Once you get rifles and bows in the mid-game it almost becomes too easy to mow down the millions of bandits that clog the west, although shots are always punchy and satisfying. Platforming is often dodgy, although the whip is the real culprit. Its momentum-based usage feels at odds with the otherwise stiff and deliberate nature of the vertical sections of the game. I suppose a solid 50% of my deaths in the first half of the game were due to missed whip-aided jumps rather than bullets, and it really doesn't feel good bouncing off the level geometry to your doom. The stealth segments are where we really suffer though, as the mechanics of hiding (crouch in a bush) are far too basic to facilitate anything other than tedious waiting games as racist ranchers and angry farmers amble slowly from one end of a field to another. They are mercifully brief if you can get them right, but good luck getting by without a half dozen retries. Ultimately a half-shapen lump of clay that can be striking, but is often clumsy and narratively derivative. It is however an interesting look for those of you who are interested in exploring when game design in mainstream titles felt more like the wild west.
I am mexican and YOU are racist.
