From a pure mechanics/story point of view this is a decidedly mediocre game that is mostly redeemed by its panache and and unreliable narrator. This is a completely on-rails cover-based shooter where you use essentially the same two weapons the entire game against the same exact enemies. There is a revenge story we've all seen 1,000 times before. It doesn't really solve any of the issues with cover-based shooters and on-rails other than a weak effort to give you more points for combos and 3-4 hidden items per level. To some extent it is almost refreshing how streamlined the game is. Yes, there is a bit of a skill tree but it is kinda useless? This isn't one of those games that mashes in crafting and a lite RPG experience and an optional stealth mechanic and....Nope your options are do you want to shoot them with a pistol or a rifle? They both have essentially identical range given the level designs and draw distances. All of this adds up to what should be a thoroughly mediocre and forgettable game. But the saving grace is the framing device of an unreliable narrator telling of the adventures of his youth in the Old West. He'll tell of a duel with Jesse James and someone will go, "you didn't kill Jesse James! He was killed by Bob Ford three years after that!" and the narrator will go change his story without admitting any lies. At the very end we get to a kind of "pick your morality ending" that is almost intriguing but honestly didn't really do enough to set things up. The core is still pretty average but these flourishes elevate it to a B+ kind of game. If you're looking for 3-5 hours to kill and don't mind the price this is a nice change of pace from the usual soul-less shooter.

Good ol'shooting. Fast, entertaining, decent enough story. plus some game modes like arcade mode to just get the possible score shooting enemies or the duel mode to get better at the not so cool minigame of dueling bad guys
