Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Aug 25 → 0.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
But Why? is a short, atmospheric journey about a penguin who chooses to walk toward the mountain and never turns back.
There is no grand prophecy.
No heroic destiny.
No one waiting at the top.
Only wind.
Only snow.
Only the decision to keep moving.
What Awaits You
Slippery terrain shifts beneath your feet.
Powerful winds push you off balance.
Momentum can be your greatest ally or your worst enemy.
Sometimes you glide effortlessly.
Sometimes you lose control.
Sometimes the only thing you can do… is slow down and endure.
Alone or Together
Walk the frozen path alone in quiet reflection.
Or face the mountain with up to 4 players, sharing the cold, the chaos, and the climb.
No competition.
No race.
Just persistence.
No Answers. Only a Question.
There is no explicit narrative.
No dialogue.
No guidance.
The game doesn’t ask what you are doing.
It asks:
Why are you still walking?

I KNOW WHYYYYYYYYY
But Why?
I left my wife to climb a mountain. I made friends along the way. I lost friends along the way. But in the end I am happy.

Maybe the deepest question is simply but why? Why do we keep searching for meaning in a universe that never promised us an answer this is what i learnt pn the top of that mountain. 10/10 game of the year would you recommend to a friend.
I really like this game the music too but we lost all progress and we mashed and not mashed the checkpoint to save and now nothing I am The Sad
needs grappling hook but otherwise incredible
I played it but I dont know why. the feeling of the spirituality of the game drawn me to reach the top, but I dont know why. Wilson, my savior, gave me the boost half way there, but I dont know why. The virtue of reaching the top granted me the power to make this review, but I dont know why.
Great game... me and my son enjoyed it... so much stress and tension and the end just another cliff, just another step! ALSO.. that tune was stuck in my head for days.. but I figured it out. It is a slowed mix of L'Amour-Toujours by GIGI D'Agostino... classic from my dance days :P
The path is so hard to find—there are checkpoints, but as there’s no save function, you can’t just stop halfway through. You’ll never know why it’s so highly rated unless you see it through to the end. We gave up halfway, so if you’ve managed to reach the goal, please come back to the colony and tell us all about your adventure. If that story ends with you reaching the very top and seeing the beautiful scenery, I’ll roast you and feed you to a killer whale.
Lo siento, Wilson!
