Really kinda hurts to me give this a thumbs down, but even for an early-access game this is hilariously underbaked. Putting aside - what many others already said - that this version offers less than the demo, there is still an insane amount of placeholders, and lot of QOL is simply missing. What does this gun do? What can I put in this slot? What exactly does this vehicle do and what can it carry? Who knows. It feel like 50% of items are missing any description, let alone the little lore text (which are generally very fun to read). Difficulty is all over the place. You will absolutely breeze through any mission and then get thrown a curve-ball of multiple APCs, heavy troops, and a few guys that can take you out with a single shot. Not saying this is bad but some build-up to that would be nice. The core of the game is fun and nice, but it's just missing a lot.
Although this game has a lot of potential, I cannot currently recommend the game due to how much of a time waster the death system is. When you die, you lose literally everything you bring on the mission, so you are incentivised to balance what you need vs what you are willing to lose. On paper, this is seems like framework for strategic decision making, but in reality it just wastes your time if you actually die because there is no automated system you can upgrade to get resources for you or make weapons for you later on. If you lose 200 ammo, you have to replay old missions to get that 200 ammo back, which after a while becomes just extremely tedious and boring. At most I want to play each mission once or twice, not the same salvage mission over and over and over again. On top of that, it's just too easy to die. You have 20 HP and can be instantly killed by what I assume is a headshot or high calibre gun. As far as I can tell, there is no direct way to increase your HP or damage resistance. The first time I died was on the 3rd freelance mission where you blow up some trucks, the explosion of the truck was much bigger than expected and there is no indicator on the screen to show you the radius of the explosion. Although I was annoyed because of the lack of UI information to inform me of the safe distance, I finished the mission the second time because now I know the truck basically needs to be almost off-screen for you to be safe. The second time I died was during the 2nd salvage mission and this is where I feel like I got bullshitted. I made 10 bandages because I wanted to be prepared, moved very cautiously throughout the map, and held corners while gunning down the hostiles. Then completely out of nowhere, a totally normal looking NPC with a handgun sprints around the corner of a building half a screen away and from that distance instantly kills me from 20 HP with a single shot even though I was crouching. At this point I stopped playing the game because I had no interest in doing more salvage missions just to have a chance at playing through this mission extremely cautiously and slowly again (which you need to do because all enemies bum rush you as soon as you start shooting). Basically I would like to see the game respect the player's time more and also stop making me play the same old missions over and over. Either death has to be very punishing and the player has to make several blatant mistakes to die, or death has a limited consequence and the player can die easily. It can't be both. For me personally, the time I lost trying to complete a mission and dying is already enough of a penalty to failing a mission without the need to add on additional punishments. Anyway besides this issue, the other issue is that it seems from other reviews you have to get to a certain point to even begin unlocking vehicles. Maybe some people enjoy the foot combat but I personally don't have a taste for it in its current state and was trying to just reach the point where I can use vehicles, however due to the punishing death system I got burnt out before I was able to reach that point. My last issue is that the UI basically tells you nothing about the guns, you have to try them out to know what they do. No damage stats, no effective range, nothing except their weight is shown. Even their name is hidden when you have them equipped and you basically need to memorise what every sprite looks like.

needs a toyota truck I can strap a .50 BMG onto seriously though, game is shaping up really well. if the last game is anything to go by, this game will be a masterpiece in insurgent-like gameplay. though it's gonna take awhile, like at least 2-3 years :p the game is in a really weird state as of now, I agree with that, but I believe that's mainly just because we need to wait for the devs to sort the powerscaling, how you get certain items/weapons, and merchants pricing/inventory so they can re-add the stuff people liked in the demo. I also feel like a third hideout will be coming so we can use very high-tier items and vehicles. I really like the direction of "civillian to government threat" the game has been doing so far. we just need to wait and give honest, constructive feedback concerning bugs and balance/fun. the genuine crying the negative reviews have been doing don't do anything other than stress the devs out. if the game sucks in a couple of years, sure, negative reviews exist for a reason. but the game's been out for THREE DAYS and people expect it to be 80% complete, no jank, endless content. people haven't even given it a chance and I'm seeing posts like "is the game salvageable?". it's just childish. a project like this is going to take a long time to perfect, and with the studio's track record on their previous game, I am genuinely hopeful that they will turn this game into an all-time cult classic. we just need to be helpful and patient instead of hateful. good luck, stellar jockeys!
In good conscience, I cannot recommend this game to anyone at its current state, not even to Brigador fans. For some strange reason, the early access version has less content in it than the demo. A couple of missions have been cut. You can no longer craft containers. You cannot craft a grav tank, a mongoose or a light mech from the demo. You cannot access the big fat vendor that sold basically anything for the credits, making credits kinda useless later on. A bunch of stuff from the Early Access trailer right here on the front page is also not present in the early access version. Garage mode has been integrated into the campaign instead of being a separate mode, which is a strange decision and might backfire alter down the line. Personally, I'd prefer if the sandbox/garage mode were separate. Killers is a little bit too grindy to my tastes and leans into inventory system and itemization that is a strange mix of Diablo 2 and extraction shooters. That is fine and I get it, this game doesn't have to be a Brigador copy but bigger. In many ways BK is its own beast and I like that. I just hope there will be some kind of instant action mode down the line. Arcade fun of jumping into freelance missions with different loadouts is what I loved the most about the first game. Some mechanics from the first game are not present. For example, you cannot destroy power stations and comm towers to prevent alarms. Enemies have a moral system, but all it does is making them run away, then come back a couple of seconds later. Despite your character being more fragile than at any point in the original Brigador, I felt like you are encouraged to be less tactical in Killers. You can also simply grind your way out of missions you're stuck on by repeating salvage missions. The game has cool art direction, great atmosphere and aesthetics, stellar soundtrack and solid foundation to build upon. But in its current state, I'd recommend to just play the demo as it has more content, and wait for more updates for the Early Access version before buying.
The game had a rough launch. A lot of misunderstandings between players and developers made the process of learning the game much rougher than it needed to be. So I played it for a bit, set it down way faster than I had the demo, and looked elsewhere. The game was more tedious than fun, and didn't always feel worth engaging with. I come back to find a giant post explaining all the things they've changed and adjusted based on that feedback. It's exactly what you would hope for from a developer of a game in progress. This is much more in-line with the "insurgency simulator" the developers first pitched, and I can't wait to see more of it. It's great fun to squeak through the reinforcements back to base with a haul of loot that further expands your gameplay options, and it feels infinitely more fair this time when you go down. Still mixed on losing your equipment on death, but you can always alt-f4 at the "you died" screen if you don't like that aspect. Heartily recommended.
I don't see what's the point in losing your gear on death in a single player campaign, especially when it's largely linear and meant to ramp up in difficulty
Adding like 5% more content to only remove 40% of content is a very bizarre choice. Hopefully this won't take 5 years to change. they got the bones just need to add the meat
Finished all current content. I'll go ahead first and say the game just came out and the additions to the first work well, especially for the role play of being in world. The direction the game is taking is spot on, it just isn't worth buying at the moment. Everything is definitely cheesable with current gear so people complaining about difficulty probably aren't going to really jive with what it will likely be when fully finished. You can easily finish every mission, the wave defense levels are easy when you use a 40mm and 5.56 or better. The tank is easy to kill too, the police warehouse has APCs to loot for a body and a panel van can carry it out. Add two bonesaws and simply kill all the inf with an rpg, one shot each. Go behind the tank and reach point blank range, don't let it turn on you, less than two clips and its done. The first game was hard, that's the point. If you play the campaign in the first game there is no difficulty settings, you face the foe and learn to succeed. The freeplay mode allowed different pilots which had their own difficulty modifiers for replaying levels and messing around. Getting snuck up on and killed by someone with a shotgun or grenades is your own failing to choose good positions to fight from and a misunderstanding of when to relocate. As to why I am rating the game low, come on man! This currently has less content than the demo and is misleading as the demo and trailers for this both include mechs and tanks, which aren't currently present. Let me say that again, this doesn't even let you get anything better than an APC even though the demo already had mechs and tanks. Also I'm not a fan of the toning down of difficulty, if this is going to cater to casuals then what is the point of making it. Casuals already have most of the gaming market and always move on in a hurry anyway, they aren't worth bending over backwards for. This should retain the blood of its predecessor. Anyway, first game was good and the books are too so no real concern that it won't live up when it's done, just poorly managed at the moment and not worth the price.
They took a game about committing terrorism with vehicles and mechs, and turned it into a game about committing terrorism as a normal guy on foot, while slowly grinding to unlock vehicles and mechs. The soundtrack is awesome though. The game needs more time in the oven. I may update the review later when more patches come in.
The game isn't bad, but there's not much reason to buy and play this over the demo. While it's improved upon it a bit and done some cool new things (not to mention more world building), it's removed the mechs/tanks from the demo (outside of that one early campaign mission) as well as different armour kits (leaving you with the Loyalist Kit which can struggle a lot). Alongside that some of the new mission design is questionable and losing your stuff on death is kinda annoying and doesn't really work here imo (although you can just alt+F4 when you die and lose nothing). Give it some time and I'm sure it will be great, the foundation is solid and I haven't noticed any bugs, but right now it's a bit of a downgrade from previous versions to be honest which makes it hard to recommend.
