Box Bakery is extremely addictive and surprisingly touching. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did, but it's ended up being one of my favorite cozy games. It's a baking/bakery management game, though much heavier on the shop management side than the baking side--you have to try each recipe yourself the first time, picking ingredients, mixing them, and baking/freezing/cooking them according to a recipe, but your trusty assistant will take over after that and supply you with 58 taro cakes or what-have-you with a few clicks once you've figured it out. Doing things manually is usually an option, but the game automates the more repetitive systems pretty quickly, which is definitely welcome! Besides restaurant management, there are a bunch of other things to do: I really enjoy arranging all my stickers and keepsakes for each character, for one. The gameplay loop is simple and forgiving enough to be relaxing while still having some interesting puzzles and complexities if you like to optimize things. There isn't a huge amount of customization in how your bakery looks or functions once you've unlocked the largest display case (this doesn't take long), but it is fun to replace the torn-up floors and broken windows of each bakery you open with new, pretty versions. There is also a pseudo-gacha element (sticker collecting), but that part uses only in-game currency, so it gives you that dopamine rush of collecting without putting any real money at risk. The thing that most surprised me, though, is the writing. This game really doesn't skimp on story--you'll often get multiple story segments in each in-game day, even stacked up so that several little animals visit you in a row. And the plot...well, I wasn't expecting these little animals to move me, but they genuinely did. Each one has an individual story, and many of them touch on everyday problems, dealt with gently, with love--and a bit of humor. A jellyfish (who visits your bakery in a little fishbowl on wheels) works much too hard and feels like they can't comment when their community's attempts to help save their reef go awry. A rockstar frog harbors guilt about how things ended with his old band, but is afraid to approach them after so much time has passed. A tiny, angry bunny is a better friend than you'd expect, and his boss, a turtle detective, is a weirdo who just can't get enough of your muffins. There's this thread throughout the game of accepting the bittersweet reality of being an adult, of the difficulties of working for a living and finding that sweet spot where you're at least somewhat happy and all your needs are met, of caring for people who pass away or leave or just don't like you quite as much as you like them...your player avatar, Box, is always there with a supportive ear and their favorite treat to help them out. There are also a ton of little bonus interactions if you call up one character while someone they know is already in your shop, letting you create fun little moments between friends and rivals. My only real complaint is with the translation: I wish they'd brought on an English-language editor to fix errors and help make the text sound more natural. The English can almost always be understood, at least--though I'm sure we're losing some nuance. But the biggest issue to my mind is that all the characters--none of whom have stated genders in the story (which is really easy to do in languages with genderless pronouns and a real pain in more gendered languages like English) use the pronoun "it" in the English version. It feels jarring to have sentient characters called "it" rather than using "they" or some other workaround. Still, despite the roughness of the translation, the writing still manages to convey plenty of charm and humor (big story beats aside, there are some pretty funny translation easter eggs where the translator complains about having to describe too many mostly-identical desserts or stickers). And honestly, I'm pretty sure this is was created by a micro-studio, so I really can't blame them for having some issues getting their game published in another language. Seriously, if you like cozy games at all, I can't recommend this one enough. ...And now that I've said all that, I wanna go play some more. But no, my jellyfish friend will be disappointed in me if I slack off--better get to work!
很喜欢温馨的剧情,小动物们之间融洽的关系,每一个深入人心的小故事,都让我对这个游戏十分喜爱
