About
Bot Colony Redux is a complete replacement of the original Bot Colony, with additional functionality in the form of the Garage and Riot episodes, a Mission 2 in Intruder , more content in Arrival, and conversational gameplay that actually works well (and better Speech-to-text, and emotive voices). It is also playable in 15 languages, while Bot Colony was only available in English. If you wishlisted Bot Colony, you may want to wishlist Bot Colony _Redux.
Bot Colony ( was unique in 2014 (and still is in 2026) by being the ONLY game on the planet relying on AI-based conversation as the main game mechanic, including references to the 3d scene and commanding characters to manipulate scene objects. You use your own words in order to advance in the game. Bot Colony will appeal to players interested in genre-defining games with novel mechanics.

You'll get to experience Artificial Intelligence that is currently in the realm of cinematic fantasy in Her, Ex Machina, iRobot, Blade Runner, 2001 A Space Odyssey. It's a challenging and entertaining experience that will make you realize how literally machines process language, and how much we take for granted when we speak with people.
Type of speak freely and discover the story using your own words. The answers spoken by the robots is generated dynamically. Contrast with typical game storytelling, where canned voice acting is controlled by dialog trees.
Experience the eerie atmosphere of a South Pacific island featuring ultra modern architecture and robots amid a lush jungle setting. The techno-romantic mood is enhanced by the original music soundtrack of the game.
Play detective and piece together the events that took place in a house in a 48 hour period by exploring the robot's video observations.
Work with the robots to scuttle violent sabotage attempts by robot-hating organizations.
Game sessions are unique to each player: What you say controls how robots react and what they answer. Sessions of other players will have different dialog than your session. Every session is unique.
Make the game your own: Teach robots new knowledge and new commands.
Speak or type. The Microsoft Cognitive speech-to-text does an amazing job understanding what you say, irrespective of your accent. When speech-to-text makes mistakes, you can easily correct them. You can combine playing through speech or text according to your preference.
Inspired by Bot Colony sci-fi novel, a near future industrial espionage thriller by Eugene Joseph. The novel ( available on Amazon Kindle) explores the verbal abilities of future robots and introduces the 5th law of robotics 'do as people do'.

Words cant describe how terrible this game is in its current state (keep in mind 10 years in development) and I've played Payday 3. This one is actually funny bad.
Would I recommend this game now? No. Would I recommend it for an award when it's been improved? Good golly, yes! The idea of the game is that you communicate with robots through speech. Unfortunately, these robots are particually dimwitted and will often misunderstand commands; we're not just talking Siri/Google Assistant/Alexa levels of misunderstanding, we're talking artificial stupidity. There is no technological or design reason that justifies the lack of understanding considering basic tech these days; even chatbots in the 90's had a better level of comprehension. Throw on top of that a very awkward fixed-angle third person control system and an inabilty to easily recall past instructions without having to restart the game and you have Bot Colony. Still, it's early access. Hopefully the camera can be fixed, hopefully the bots can be a little more understanding of commands. Time will tell.
Im looking forward to the updates that are coming in the future, at the moment yes the game is frustrating as the bots do some weird things while in task, and the speech is a bit hard to get the bot to understand so i end up going in circles with it, but i look forward to playing the finished version.
[strike]I'm changing my review mostly because the dev seems to really care about this game, and they seem to be paying attention to what people are saying.[/strike] (I think they gave up) This in itself is what we need more of within the gaming world. As I said before, I think this can go far and I hope it does. It is great to see devs actually trying new things and taking risk. ____ Just played it today and there is still graphic bugs. Sometimes when you press exit, the buttons don't show up. But the biggest problem is still this https://youtu.be/6Aait8W-Ud8?t=31m57s (There is also a bug where if you saved a given name on a last play and start a new one. It doesn't ask for your name so it uses the last one.)
I love the premise, but it's too buggy to actually play.
Before anything, I'll admit soemthing; I don't understand this gae at all. Very original way to control a character: you have to tell it what to do like in a retro text advanture game, through text or your voice (yes, with possible confidentiality concerns)... except that, the charcter moves in a 3D environment. Sadly, last time I played, the gap between how it works and what it explains was too big, and it wasn't very...it felt cold, too virile in a way. The description allude to a focus on comunication and understanding, but the execution lacks these dimensions. There is a deep story and some psychology, but it all feel dry and outdated (hollywood moral values...) Audiance Not 51% of humanity; The style and tone is one that expludes women. I don't knwo hwo to explain. I love that kind of concepts, I love to play male characters, but this time, it feels like the studio don't give a f* about anyone but male audiance. If that"s on purpose, ojk, it's your game. Do whatever. But says so from the start before we pay for this. Story Are we an AI or a person, are we the player character or someone giving intructions to that character...? The start is very fast and very confusing, exposition is much to fast. Over time, what I understood is that we're a bitter male who work for some spy or gov organisation (the holywood toxic cliché) and we hacked robots to get our way into something. Except that we have to cooperate with there robots at time, and so get to understand them. Ther is also an ebook about the story: https://www.amazon.ca/Bot-Colony-Novel-Present-Future-ebook/dp/B00K7O6BSE" Not relatable I want to like this game, am hyped about the studio and the originality, but the execusion doesn't work. The boring storytelling kills the originality of the control. Which is sad, because the idea behind that storytelling was interesting. Please add a less mh... rough male voice option for the main character? One that sounds less warrior-like, one that suits the cyperpunk general trends. Either calmer and more humble and curious, or not a barytone), someone who is more neutral about hte robots from the start and will go deeper into understanding, disocery, etc, and implement a saner gameplay (let me choose dialogue options or for sentences with a series of keywords among which to choose (subject + verb + object+modifier)... In summary, maybe make an effort to make it relatable to more players, because there is no way the story could only be told with that precise character in a game: a software based on choices and interaction... Gameplay As another player wrote, for something that purports to be a speech-enabled game, for EVERY SINGLE interaction, you have to: 1> Move the mouse to the bottom right of the screen 2> Click the speech icon 3> Say a line 4> Then hit enter on the keyboard" My experience I played in early access years ago. Thi is still Early Acess and the dev team seems still active... maybe many things have changed. Maybe the introduction is smoother now. Maybe the confidentiality about our voice is more clear and we can disable that function altogether and just write text. . Conclusion The dev haven't given up and it's EA, so maybe... Okay I'm lying to myuself: there is no way to save the codebase of this game...too much to redo differently, and after too long. The code must be a mess by now. They'd better make a sequel and restart from the scratch. They obviously can code and tell a story, but they went off on the wrong foot too fast and now too long ago. The storytelling standards have changed today, the speach recongition sotfware too.... is it really worth keeping this afloat? The plot idea is very very cool. Why not reuse it in a more classic game where we control the characters with dialogue options instead of writing / speaking? How about a sequel without the corp-like organization? How about making something best suited for cyberpunk/solarpunk settings? You know, fight off corps, govs, and spies alike, and make a looner the hero instead of a warrior?
