Borderlands Game of the Year

Quick clarification up front — because I’m consistent about this: I only review games I have beaten. Main story completed. Credits rolled. Pandora doesn’t care why you’re here — only that you survive. Borderlands is rough, weird, and unapologetically itself — and that’s exactly why it worked. This is the game that blended FPS gunplay with RPG loot systems in a way that felt fresh at the time. The cel-shaded art style gave it a strong identity, the humor was dry and unhinged, and Pandora felt like a lawless wasteland that didn’t owe the player anything. The shooting isn’t as refined as later entries, and you can feel its age in movement and enemy variety. But the core loop still holds up: explore, shoot, loot, repeat. Finding better guns is satisfying, and builds actually matter as you level up. What really stands out looking back is the tone. Borderlands is quieter and darker than its sequels. The humor is there, but it’s more restrained, more cynical. It feels like a strange sci-fi western before the series fully leaned into loud chaos — and there’s something charming about that. As a GOTY edition, the included DLC helps round out the experience, adding more content and giving the game room to breathe beyond the main story. Is it perfect? No. Is it dated in spots? Absolutely. But as the foundation for an entire franchise, it still earns respect. Pros: Iconic art style that still stands out Addictive loot-driven gameplay Strong foundation for the series DLC adds meaningful value Cons: Shooting and movement feel dated Repetitive environments Story is light compared to later games Verdict: A completed classic that laid the groundwork for everything Borderlands became — rough around the edges, but still fun to return to.

As a big Borderlands fan, this is where it all starts. I have played through this game a few more times than I should of. I much prefer the newer games of course since it only gets better but for the nostalgia and story, you have to complete this at least once. It's a great start to the franchise in many different ways.

Such a great time

on the hostile, bandit planet of pandora, there is one thing that draws off-world attention: the vault. this myserious alien structure is rumored to hold treasures of fantastic power and wealth, and so it attracts fortune-seeking corporations and indviduals alike. in borderlands, you are such individual, but the satisfaction of unlocking the vault's secrets pales in comparison to the rollicking good time you you'll have on your way there. borderlands is all about the journey, not the destination, and like most trips, this one is much better when you have some fiends along for the ride. solo players can still have a good time, because the bloody and entertaining combat is paired well with rewarding loot and engaging experience systems. but pandore is a lonely place for a solitary mercenary, and lone wolves will find the pace deliberate and the friendly characters too few and far between. i play this game with friends and completed it many times is was allways alot fun, hope you will enjoy.:)

Comecei a vida no Borderlands por indicação de um ex-cunhado e é engraçado pq eu ainda era um pré-adolescente na época e não tinha um discernimento crítico das coisas, agora, no auge da vida adulta, posso tecer um pouco mais sobre a minha experiência com essa série de jogos apesar do CEO da Gearbox ser um completo cretino. Vamos lá. Joguei muito pouco do 1 a muito tempo atrás como havia dito e o 2 consegui zerar no ano passado, ou seja, zerei o 2 antes de sequer jogar direito o 1, todavia, devo expressar que o Borderlands 1 é sem dúvida mais divertido. Não sei expressar muito bem a razão, talvez seja o fato de que ele seja mais cru e te desafie mais e essa é com certeza uma das características mais prazerosas desse game, sendo um pouco mais específico e técnico: o leveling não é sicronizado, não há minimapa, os inimigos (a depender da onde você se enfia) são mais fortes e você acaba indo pro beleléu muito cedo se não tomar cuidado... Borderlands é uma experiência FPS/RPG absolutamente divertida e sem frescura. Jogão. Devo encerrar esse primeiro pra poder pular para o 3 e fazer mais reviews. O 4? Bom, o 4 não vale a pena. O preço, a otimização, presença de DENUVO e o contexto político, não vale a pena. Tmj

Bom jogo de tiro e mundo aberto! Incrível a quantidade de mapas e armas para um jogo de 2009. Excelente experiência, boa campanha solo com possibilidade de Co-Op.
