PLEASE AVOID THIS GAME AT ALL COSTS!!! This is coming from a person who 100%d this game. - Is this a bad game? Nope, absolutely not it was phenomenal. This is OG Borderlands full DLC packaged game and it is as good as it gets. At this point you are wondering if I am insane or not, here is why you should avoid this game at all costs: In case you missed the review explaining why 2K is a spyware company and injecting viruses and other means of malware into your kernel and steal your private information. Here we go detailed explanation I copied from the original reviewer why you should definitely avoid this game at all costs and any other products of 2K: Take-Two and 2K games have updated all their games Terms of Service, turning this game as well as all of their other games into literal spyware. It has been sitting in my library alongside with many other games collecting dust and increasing my evergrowing backlog. Back then they weren't this evil so I didn't mind supporting them. Look, I play my games on an isolated PC where I don't have any private info stored. PC is just for playing steam games and that is it. So those woke freaks CANNOT reach my wife's or/and my daughter's videos & pictures and sell them to a data broker in China, India, Russia and Iran or even worse DHS. If you value yourself and your privacy DO NOT EVER buy anything from 2K and any other demonic woke corporations like 2K such as Microsoft, Activision, Bethesda, CDPR etc. There's a good saying on the internet starts with "If buying isn't owning..." you might consider doing the rest. These demons should go bankrupt after all the illegal activity they have done. Their CEO was busted in a medieval themed restaurant with a USB full of illegal data on him. Think about it! There is a remastered version of the game as well and since I already own it and it is non-refundable, I will play that one as well and revise another review but as long as this malware spy company continuous their hideous actions I will keep warning people.

This game was alright for a short spell in 2009, but as time passed it's clear this was terribly overrated by everyone (including yours truly). Borderlands feels less like a first person shooter and more like a mobile game with a lot of voice acting. For some reason the shooting mechanics feel less responsive than Doom and quite clearly the 'RPG' elements are essentially 'time locks' on essential gameplay mechanics. The only real 'influence' this game had was in detaching video-gaming from the player's hand-eye coordination. You'll notice that weapons don't reliably shoot at what you need them to hit, they have all sorts-of silly effects the player can't truly control and the entire focus of the game is on doing fetch quests in barely-designed environments with enemies that barely pose a threat. To be blunt, Borderlands is constructed as a casino game for twenty-somethings. The Internet humour and 'memes' are the height of its creative impulse. There's definitely a demographic of people, mostly from the Xbox Live era of gaming, that bought and enjoyed this title...and kudos to them...but is Borderlands anywhere near the level of Left 4 Dead or Crysis? Absolutely not. Anyone who compares Borderlands to other 'all time great' games is lying out of their ass. As for myself, I don't regret spending time with the game in 2009; I think I was mostly just interested in seeing if a developer could make a 'first-person ARPG' that was somewhat fun. I got what I came for then, but underestimated how much this game's humor and bare-bones gameplay really appealed to people. There's some enjoyment to be had in this game, don't get me wrong. If you want to just chill out with friends and chat while doing boring things with your hands, this is a great title for that. Borderlands can be a digital hangout, if you want it to be that. Though...even as I type that...I'd actually recommend just playing one of the various online-enabled, poker games that are designed with voice chat nowadays. That is to say, in 2026 there are vastly better options of FPS RPG-likes out there (including Cyberpunk 2077). There's no reason to play or buy the first Borderlands game; it was a mild, average experience in 2009 and didn't really deserve five-or-so sequels. The game was so cheap to make that 2K made gangbusters off it or something; it's inexplicable why this series is still around.

Borderlands GOTY is a brilliantly chaotic trip to Pandora: weird bandits, ridiculous amounts of guns, and Claptrap testing your sanity on a regular basis. The humor hits, the action pop , and going for 100% completion took me 75 hours. Totally worth it. Loot is love, loot is life!

I came to this game after playing Enhanced version, and this was a mistake because character transfers don't work in that direction. As a result, I used a tool called WillowTree to copy my character from the Enhanced version to the vanilla one. I still had to re-earn a lot of achievements, so I spent enough time here to get a proper feel for the game. First of all, the vanilla version lacks both a mini-map and a FOV slider. The latter is very important to me, I just can't stand anything below 90 FOV. I tried changing it in the configuration files but unfortunately it kept resetting to the default value. On the other hand, Borderlands GOTY doesn't suffer from a notorious memory leak unlike its "Enhanced" version. Anyway, it is still an outdated and awful game filled with dull, repetitive quests and endless backtracking. Despite transferring my fully developed character, it still took me 18 hours to complete all the missing achievements, including those from Claptrap's New Robot Revolution and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot. Yes, that's right, I completed the Underdome arenas twice. I almost went crazy. As I said in my review of the Enhanced version: Don't play it alone. Don't play it at all. Cambiar el contrato de un juego después de haberlo comprado, debería ser un delito. Esta empresa debería ir a juicio. This game walked so Borderlands 2 could sprint while screaming. Borderlands GOTY is rough, loud, and very much from another era, but the core idea still works: shoot everything, grab loot, repeat. The guns are fun, the wasteland is empty in a charming way, and the humor is simpler but still lands. You’ll spend a lot of time driving across the desert, fighting the same enemies, and opening chests that may or may not hate you. It’s not as polished as the later games, but it has personality. If you want to see where the series started and don’t mind some jank, it’s worth playing. If you’re here for nonstop chaos and modern quality-of-life features, you’ll feel the age.
