A neat little game that does a surprisingly good job at putting you in the commander's seat of the 8th Air Force from its beginnings. You choose your targets, orient the flight path to the target to avoid the worst of German defenses, and build up the experience and expertise of your bomb groups. As you get more aircraft and crew you can form new units to increase your hitting power. The game is a work in progress and the author is releasing new patches and adding stuff. The game has a solid foundation and its pretty easy to get into. Its a bit rough in certain areas, and the UI can be a bit annoying, but this is all easily fixable.
Great concept and could do with much more development. Base core of a future great game if someone picks it up and shines it a bit more.
This game needs a lot of work before anybody should pay any money for it. The war just... keeps going. June 6 1944 rolls around, no invasion. May 7 1945, no surrender. Doesn't seem to matter how much damage you do to the enemy industry, they just keep fighting. I decided early on that I would focus on one "center of gravity" for the German military: ammunition. Without ammo they can't shoot guns, drop bombs, fire torpedoes, right? Well, apparently they just keep making ammunition no matter how damaged their factories are. There are 6 German ammunition plants on the map. I would usually split my bombers into two groups and bomb the two that were producing the most ammunition while doing a recon flight of the other 4. Every day I'd pick two new targets. I'd damage targets to over 100% damage (not sure how that's possible) and they'd still be putting out 30-40,000 "ammunitions" every day. The damage measurement is another thing. You can hover your mouse over a target to see information about it, including the damage % (which can be over 100%). You can also look at intelligence to see what specific German industries are doing, and how damaged each plant is (on this screen the damage maxes out at 100%). Even with all 6 ammunition plants damaged at 100%, the German ammunition manufacturing was still putting out plenty of ammo for the Germans. The fighters are completely broken. I'd launch fighters to escort the bombers on their mission and they'd literally ALL get shot down. I'd do fighter sweeps of enemy airfields, same result. The bomb sight minigame is broken. It seemed like no matter what I did I would always do hardly any damage to the target. It's very hard to see exactly where "center" is on the bomb sight. I ended up cheating and using the cursor to mark the centered crosshairs at the beginning of the minigame and then just keep them in the middle of the cursor. Still, little to no damage every time. I know this is early access, just like every other game on Steam apparently, but unless you want to pay money to be a beta tester for this iPad-level game on a PC, skip this one.
Unfortunately the game appears to be abandoned, which is a shame because this is a game I wanted for years. To manage the whole 8th airforce bomber campaign without having to boot up a Gary Grigsby game with a manual thicker than my head is a nice idea. This game is buggy, though, and I can't recommend it unless it receives an update.
Could be a good game however when installed the text and font are unreadable.
