Really fun bullet heaven, and definitely the best-looking. Vibes are thick, and it's a popcorn snack of a game.

Pure chaos and addicting. Fun mix of vampire survivor and platforming done well.
Blood Dungeon takes the familiar survival roguelite formula and gives it an energetic platforming twist, creating an experience where movement is just as important as building overwhelming offensive power. Developed and published by Messhof, the game throws players into increasingly crowded arenas filled with monsters, resources, environmental hazards, and opportunities for character growth. Rather than relying entirely on conventional top-down movement, it encourages running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and using the structure of each arena to escape dangerous situations. The result is a more physically active interpretation of the bullet-heaven concept. The core loop is straightforward but designed to encourage experimentation. Enemies continuously threaten the player while defeated creatures provide resources that contribute to temporary and permanent progression. Increasing blood levels allows a run to develop through new upgrades, while treasure chests scattered throughout the environment provide additional rewards. This placement encourages exploration even when staying in one relatively safe area might initially seem preferable. As enemy numbers increase, however, remaining stationary becomes increasingly impractical, and players have to make quick decisions about where to move next. Platforming gives these encounters their distinctive character. Arenas contain ladders, chains, grates, walls, ceilings, platforms, and underwater sections that can influence both navigation and combat. This means the environment is not simply a decorative backdrop. A good escape route can be as valuable as a powerful weapon, particularly once large groups of enemies begin occupying multiple parts of the screen. Vertical movement also creates additional tactical possibilities that distinguish the game from survival titles built around relatively flat battlefields. Enemy variety helps prevent this movement system from becoming predictable. More than 100 enemy types are included, with creatures ranging from familiar fantasy monsters to considerably stranger opponents. Different enemies can walk, bounce, cling to surfaces, penetrate walls, or approach from unusual directions. Because their movement characteristics vary, players cannot always rely on the same route through an arena. A position that seems secure against ground-based creatures may quickly become dangerous when enemies capable of ignoring walls or approaching vertically enter the fight. The nine unlockable playable characters provide another substantial source of variety. They possess different weapons and abilities, with some characters gaining unusual traversal options in addition to straightforward combat advantages. Abilities such as creating climbable webs, flying, or moving exceptionally quickly can fundamentally change how an arena is approached. This makes character selection more meaningful than simply choosing between different starting statistics. Learning the advantages and limitations of each character should provide a significant portion of the game's replay value. Build development is supported by a large selection of unlockable weapons and upgrades, with more than 100 possibilities available. The appeal comes from seeing how different combinations interact as a run progresses. Early encounters may require careful positioning and deliberate avoidance, while a successful collection of upgrades can eventually transform the player into an enormously destructive force. Because the available choices can vary between attempts, the game encourages adapting to what appears rather than reproducing exactly the same strategy every time. Permanent progression provides motivation even when a run ends unsuccessfully. Bones collected during play can be given to the Dogmancer for lasting upgrades, gradually improving future attempts. This softens the frustration of defeat because time spent surviving and gathering resources can still contribute toward broader advancement. More than 100 quests offer additional objectives, while six unlockable survival arenas expand the environments available for repeated runs. Daily dungeons and global high scores further support players interested in returning regularly or competing for stronger performances. The pixel-art presentation complements the exaggerated nature of the action. Blood, unusual monsters, compact character designs, and increasingly crowded encounters give the game a deliberately chaotic personality. The violence is presented with a cartoonish tone, and the gore can be disabled for players who prefer less visual excess. A Streamer Mode is also available to remove the small amount of nonsexual nudity associated with certain characters. These options provide useful control over presentation without changing the underlying mechanics. Thomas Hoey's dynamic dungeon drum-and-bass soundtrack is particularly appropriate for a game built around constant movement and escalating pressure. The energetic music helps reinforce the rapid rhythm of combat, especially as an arena progresses from relatively manageable encounters into dense waves of enemies. Together with the pixel-art visuals and unconventional creature designs, the soundtrack contributes to an identity that feels intentionally strange, energetic, and playful. Steam Deck compatibility is a notable advantage. The game is officially Steam Deck Verified, with its core functionality working through the handheld's controls and its interface remaining usable on the smaller display. Controller prompts and general navigation are appropriately supported, while the game can run using settings suitable for the device. Its viewpoint and methodical pacing also translate naturally to portable play, although demanding visual settings can still make sensible performance adjustments worthwhile for players prioritizing battery life or consistent performance. Blood Dungeon ultimately stands out by combining the addictive progression of a bullet-heaven roguelite with considerably more elaborate platforming and environmental movement. Its large enemy roster, nine characters, extensive collection of weapons and upgrades, permanent progression, quests, multiple arenas, daily challenges, and leaderboard competition create substantial replay potential. Its repetitive survival structure and increasingly cluttered battles will not appeal equally to everyone, but players who enjoy experimenting with builds while constantly navigating dangerous environments should find plenty to appreciate. Rating: 8/10
