Black Mirror III

Wonderful. Maybe the best of the three Black Mirror games. Total play time almost 18 hours. Only needed help a few times.

The third installment entirely takes place in the haunting Black Mirror Manor, carrying on from where the second game left off. The protagonist has become a naturalised Brit, and switched to the metric measuring system in his comments. In customary fashion for the Black Mirror series, much of the dialogue is only there to give exposition, and scenes have to be revisited to check for new interactions as the plot develops. The game does away with using the right mouse button to inspect surroundings, relegating to it only the function of activating items in inventory. The inventory remains unchanged - it is still of the "scrolling" type, and there are enough useless items to discover for it to be mildly annoying. The character picks up all sorts of random crap - even a small cardboard tube looks "useful" to him - but refuses to pick up some actually useful tools because he does not need them immediately; all to test the player's memory later on. Most puzzles are to do with item interactions and pixel-hunting. The majority of the few unexciting logic puzzles have a panic switch to skip them - it appears after a bit of time. I don't think there were any sliding puzzles this time. One of the puzzles requires highlighting key words in a letter, and it can only be solved by using the panic switch because of a mistake in the text file. Said file can be edited in the game directory; the puzzle is a waste of time otherwise. Final maze puzzle cannot be skipped, however, and can get bugged under certain circumstances, making it unsolvable - the game will just freeze, so keep a save from the beginning of the maze. Bonus art is back, but the way to acquire it is slightly different this time. Ravens have to be found in the scenes, and they do not show up with the highlighter tool. Some art is unlocked by discovering specific interactions, which can be missed so save often and in different slots to hunt them down later. The ending is probably the most anticlimactic cutscene ever.
