Bits & Bops

It's a Rhythm Heaven expy and it wears that influence on its sleeve. It does a great job in most places, especially the humor aspect of the background "distraction" events, but I do think some of the later levels lean too heavily on reaction time, especially the last couple mixtapes. I had a great time going through and getting lowercase-p perfect on each level, but probably won't go back unless there's a major content update.

Pros: Amazing Artstyle. Genuinely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gorgeous. Good Music President Bird Con: The gameplay. The game responds well and most misses were just me being bad at video games. The problem has to do with the amount and general quality. I only really liked 5 of the 20 minigames (B-Bot, Flow Worms, Steady Bears, President Bird, and Snakedown) and in general most of the minigames didn't feel very different in gameplay/have a lot of overlap. This also is a problem with it being 16 dollars for only 20 main mode minigames, which I think is a bit steep. The cues are also a little iffy. Overall: Good Game but kinda steep price. (Product was gifted to me by a friend for my birthday)

Bits and Bops does a fantastic job with its presentation, using 2D animation that is both cute and feels very fluid. I personally recommend it if you enjoy rhythm or cozy games as a whole, since it has an active community that is building custom maps, plenty of hours for perfectionists, and best of all, a parrot president. The custom maps are great so far, so combining this with the upcoming editor mode will surely make this game more engaging and worth it for people looking for a challenge. It does have problems in Linux though, with the same PC it goes from -120 ms in Linux Mint to just around 10 ms in Windows 11. I had to switch to Windows to finish it, since some minigames that use offbeat notes were harder to achieve, like the Ice Skating one. There are some negatives, like its playtime, since it will run you around 2 hours at most for the main minigames, and for the price, it can be a bit too lacking. Some minigames don't feel like their own thing (like having two marching minigames), and are less polished than others. Finally, some rhythm changes can sometimes be abrupt, with little lead up to it in SFX, and combined with camera changes it can leave you a bit lost if you are looking for perfection. It is overall a good game, and I think the team is doing everything they can to be a worthy successor to Rhythm Heaven, including the new editor mode, so I will recommend it. Try it on a discount.

An extremely charming game. If you enjoy rhythm game of any kind, I think you'll really like what Bits and Bops has to ever. It's like Rhythm Heaven, but with the cuteness cranked up to the max! The game also now has a custom level editor, and fans have been making some really sick custom mixtapes :)
