In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland. The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource.

dev man be like -Come outta nowhere -drop indepth, long term city management game -simple readable art style -game keeps your attention the whole time. Mismanagement could lead to economic collapse at any moment -Disappear into the f*%king ether.
While Timberborn is the better 'city builder' or 'colony sim' at this point, Banished + Colonial Charter is timeless, imo. I love the way the game looks. I love that nothing is really locked behind research. I love that I can just set out and make a pretty little town. Such a relaxing little game to revisit every few years. However, it isn't without its flaws. I could not get the tutorial to work without crashing. Occasionally, the game would crash on its own, and because of this, I don't like that autosave overwrites and doesn't use multiple 'slots'. Additionally, some disasters seem absolutely unfair and just ruin towns. For example, I just had a tornado rip through my highly developed town of ~300, killing off all my livestock and over half the villagers; there was nothing I could do. Finally, the current listed price of $20 seems a little high when I remember paying less than half that. Still, if you like colony sims, this is a classic.
This was my first introduction into a resource simulator and I LOVE IT. Once I got the hang of the game and this style of game there were some things I wished it had (like bigger maps and more map types), but then I found everything I could wish for and more in the mods. It is a great game and the mods made it even better.
Its hard to explain but this game just works. AI dose what you want it to for the most part. You can sit here for hours, watch the town grow, and enjoy music. Of course, it is not auto pilot, but the management is VERY fun. VERY addictive. If you are having trouble surviving your first winter then go look at a youtube tutorial. once you get it, you get. and its great. if you want a challenge you can ramp it up too. play as cozy or brutal as you desire. Can't recommend this game enough.
Basic needs were met, fisherman's dock with 4 workers, two boarding houses, plenty of firewood and stone, yet all 20 some people starved to death. Workers at the fishery, who were catching fish *starved to death*!? I mean, did the Developers graduate from Elementary School?
