Still holds up great. Coming from 3 i'm rather surprised how well the general tone is the same with high stakes and silly jokes. Great visuals, dialogues and fairly deep combat. Both DLC and SoD are great too.

I have played this game twice now, once from disks may years ago form CDs and the second time was this steam playthrough. I enjoy playing the game and very much like all the different side quests and random (sometimes very random) things characters are doing in the game. Its genuinely a game you play and feel like you are making the game your own in the choices you make. I only really choose the good side of things and always play a sorcerer half elf and found the game challenging especially during the harder fights and end boss fights [spoiler] (I had to use potions (loads of potions for everyone in the party and I don't mean healing potions) to win the final battle of Dragon Spear - BG1.5) [/spoiler]. My real motivation for playing this game again was to play BG1 then BG2 and finally BG3 obviously this play though overran a bit (since its now 2026 - I pre-purchased BG3 and have yet to play it!). I think its a really good game but I much preferred BG2 (and its expansion) in terms of actually playing the game. To compare the two I have now started my third play through of BG2 (on steam), which is an extra play through to BG1. Anyway I would certainly recommend this game for anyone who likes these kind of games or for those who want to take part in and know the plot before (and take a single character though BG1, BG2 and presumably BG3 - no idea if you can import into BG3) playing BG3.
